Bird watching again, one of my distractions from thinking about food. I love the little house finches best, they're so cute and sing so sweetly. The bully white-wing has met it's match, one of the ring-necks decided it had enough and started pushing back, and now it's the king of the roof. There are three squirrels now, one is quite young. But best of all is when the cardinals deign to make a brief appearance, so beautiful they take my breath away! The highlight of my day, number 82 in isolation. 😁

Katsolo, I'd love that. Many years ago I spotted an oriole in our back yard, the only time I've ever seen one.

Shir, there are hummingbird feeders that stick to your window with suction cups. That might be an option. Do you have a balcony? A few years ago I hung a birdhouse in the corner outside our kitchen window. We have had several wrens nest there and raise a family. A couple has been building a nest for the past few days. They build more than one nest, so hoping they choose this one for their eggs! They also tried building one in a dog bed in our garage a couple of days ago 😐 We had to dispose of it since we have to close the garage door & they wouldn't be able to come & go.

I'm enjoying bird watching too. And squirrel watching. The sparrows are gone but I get lots of finches, mostly the pretty little yellow goldfinches, but some of the plain house finches. Some are red. I remember my dad used to call them "red headed sparrows" so I always think of him when I see a red finch. I had a huge bird on the deck rails yesterday. Don't know what it was - maybe a hawk or something. And now there are baby turkeys. 3 hens came by yesterday with about 30 chicks. Hope the hawk or whatever it was, didn't stop by because of the babies. I get lots of blue jays and mourning doves, tit mice (or mouses?) and some really pretty spotted towhees. Also get a bird that runs up the trunk of the oak tree, some kind of nut hatch. I love watching the birds. I also enjoy it when I go to the coast, lots of bird watching there. Glad you are enjoying the same kind of nature as me!

Sherry, I do have a balcony, but no way to hang a feeder. At my age and fat as I am, I'm in no position to be climbing things out on my balcony; too great a chance of going over the edge. LOL!

Fritzy, the male house finches have a red or golden (depends on what they're eating) head and chest. We have lots of sparrows here year-round. My nephew lives in Fort Worth and sees turkeys sometimes.

Did you see that squirrel "obstacle course" video that's going around facebook? It's hilarious if you like squirrels.

Katsolo, do you put out halved oranges for your orioles? We used to do that, they like the sticky juice when they are nest building. Also gave us good bird photo opps.

Shirfleur, I live in Corpus Christi. Our white pelicans just flew away north for the summer. Today my husband and I were treated to the amazing view of wave after wave of brown pelicans in a horizontal V formation flying south down the beach. (We much more commonly see them in single file.) We're used to seeing groups of 3, 6, occasionally 12, but only a few groups at a time. They just kept coming today as we walked the seawall on North Padre Island. One group was of 20 pelicans. We were thrilled. They used to be endangered. Our theory was that there was a big pelican party going on at Little Shell, down further on the National Seashore. I'm still excited.

So, you're just down the coast from me. I love the way brown pelicans fly, that must have been quite a sight. I used to spend so much time down on the coast, I miss it. There's just something about being near the water that restores my soul. 🌊🌊🌊

That's the way we feel about water. It does restore our soul and we feel so lucky to be able to live here. I'm sorry you can't be on the coast.
