Fritzy 22's Journal, 27 Dec 19

Many times what I eat depends on wanting to use up what's in the refrigerator. It's been 2 weeks since the last painful gallstone episode and I'm getting less worried about the pain. And getting tired of eating very little. Haven't had any meat for close to 2 weeks or any meals of any kind, except for canned soup. Yesterday I decided to have a piece of apple pie - the same Costco pie now cut into pieces and in the freezer that I ate prior to 2 of the "attacks". Had a small piece, ate slowly and I was fine. I think for me, the biggest thing is to not get full when eating, and not to eat big high fat meals especially those that include red meat. We'll see. I went 5 or 6 years between gallstone episodes. But when they've happened there have been 2 or 3 painful attacks within a short time. The surgeon told me it's the same gallstones - they haven't gone anywhere. So I still want to see what my doctor thinks about surgery or whether I can deal with this through diet. I'm making a baked potato for breakfast, using up the shredded cheese in the fridge.

How are you doing after the potato?

I thought I commented earlier, must have forgot to hit "post comment". I'm fine after the potato. I ate slowly and drank lots of water while eating and after eating. The surgeon said drinking water helps. I think it helps to flush things through, the gallbladder is like a filter and I don't want to much fat to get stuck there. After the potato though, I arranged to meet my sister at Dress Barn (60 miles away) because they are closing at the end of the year. Got there, and they had already closed the business. So we went to Red Robin for lunch. I got the Whiskey River chicken wrap in a spinach tortilla with steak fries. Only ate half and just a few fries, but I am surprised at how much fat there was in that meal! I drank a full glass of water with the meal and more water on the drive home, but gotta wait and see if I over did things today. Will just keep drinking water. Oh, and I ready somewhere apple juice helps so will have a glass of apple juice.

Sounds like you're able to ease back into it- so that's good. In the meantime- Not getting too full is probably something I could learn a lesson in some days so hopefully this all works out well for you!

Glad you are figuring out something that works for you! I can’t imagine those gall stone don’t pass like other stones in other parts of the body (can’t think what they are called). Hoping you can work it out without surgery!

I hope things continue to improve. You are doing the right things and listening to your doctor. :)

DP - I think maybe tiny gallstones may move out of the gallbladder. But bigger ones cause pain because they can't get out or they get stuck in the cystic duct. I worry about them getting stuck and causing an infection. When they cause pain you have to see a doctor. I guess normally most people have no symptoms. John, I usually drink extra water when I've been eating poorly thinking it will help flush the bad stuff through my system. Turns out I may be right. Peeper, I know kidney stones pass and are really, really painful when they pass. Thanks Binky. Hope to see my regular doctor for some guidance as to the next step.
