A couple of dieting tools/techniques and how/why they can work.
Intermittent fasting. You create a smaller eating window so you eat fewer calories. There is no fat loss advantage. Fasted cardio. You burn more fat during the exercise but you then burn more carbs the rest of the day and vice versa if you exercise after a meal. There is no net advantage at the end of the day. Keto. You cut out a whole macro giving you less variety causing a calorie deficit. You burn fat for energy instead of glycogen but you also eat more fat. There is no fat loss advantage at the end of the day. Eating "clean". You avoid processed high calorie easy to overeat foods making a calorie deficit easier, there is no fat loss advantage.

These are tools that you can use to help you in your weight loss journey. They may offer benefits depending on the individual. The fasted cardio is the only one that I wouldn't recommend since it offers zero benefits in my eyes. If anything, it may be detrimental since it may negatively affect energy for said cardio. The same can be said for IF and keto for body composition goals but the pros, depending on the individual, may outweigh the cons. If you like IF, keto, or eating clean and can do it for life, go for it.

I didn't cite any sources I am just going by memory but if anyone has questions, I will most likely be able to find some.

Preach Rosio! I finally eat a balanced diet that is manageable. I know how to manage alcohol, pizza, chocolate, burgers, etc. I feel in control and that hasn’t ever been the case (45 years)

For some, not all, keto is the WoE that saved them so anyone saying that it isn't the second coming take it as an affront. It's tough to stick to so I think they seek validation for it, they don't want to hear it is just another way to limit calories.

I have notice that too, they seek validation. When you are truly happy with your diet, when you truly believe it’s a healthy one and you can adhere to it lifelong there is no need to seek validation

There is no need to explain why you are on that diet.

I mean, you have one guy saying that I am telling people how to eat and another claiming that I am attacking keto. I tell people to find what works for them and explaining why keto works. I don't understand these people putting words in my mouth lol

Oh, I see why. Judging by their latest journal entry, he or she is another person who is tricked by the whole water weight gain claiming that CICO doesn't work because of a very short term experiment. Yeah, when you go from keto to CICO you gain a lot of water weight, especially when you're obese. You go back to keto and shed 3 pounds of water and claim it's the holy grail of diets. You see, I can understand if this particular post gets under his or her skin but it's just me being honest. :)

Always lots of talk about Low Carb way of eating. (what this has turned into) Reason being it works. But perhaps not in the way some may think. “Any woe that educates us on how our bodies digest and burn the energy we feed it is great!” Low carb woe is the most dramatic and simplest to understand for most primarily because our norm American diet is so high in processed simple carbs. This is where peoples looking for a change are coming from. We see here, “loving this LC woe I finally have control’”. After realizing that one has the knowledge to control their energy intake it’s all relative. Decide what your day will involve and eat accordingly. Are you sedentary for the day or will require 3k calories of carbs, fat, and protein to burn and increase muscle definition. It’s all a learning process to start a lifelong process of bodybuilding like Diablo or just get more fit than you’ve ever been. What you do and where you take this info is up to the individual.

My point exactly Chris!!👍 ... as I’m adding carbs back into the daily diet....

Oops. I did the fasted cardio when I worked out last summer. I’m not a breakfast eater usually and cardio was 10:30-11am. I did however have carbs and protein shortly after thanks to advice from you and Chris. Did IF a lot without realizing it too. Just cause I’m hungriest from about 2pm to midnight. Some days I skipped breakfast and lunch but made up for it with my nightly snacking. Its something I can’t seem to give up. When I do then I devour anything and everything the next morning and noon meal which puts me over my calories and I’m still hungry all day. Now I keep a container in the places I usually snack. These containers usually contain one snickers of varying sizes, at least one protein bar and several low calorie packaged snacks like jerky and rice crispy treats. I can have my junk, in a small portion and am less likely to get up for a whole plate of chips and cheese or another candy bar or, heaven forbid, a whole midnight meal. Now if I just had a few mini fridges for protein shakes, iced tea and propel...
