A couple of dieting tools/techniques and how/why they can work.
Intermittent fasting. You create a smaller eating window so you eat fewer calories. There is no fat loss advantage. Fasted cardio. You burn more fat during the exercise but you then burn more carbs the rest of the day and vice versa if you exercise after a meal. There is no net advantage at the end of the day. Keto. You cut out a whole macro giving you less variety causing a calorie deficit. You burn fat for energy instead of glycogen but you also eat more fat. There is no fat loss advantage at the end of the day. Eating "clean". You avoid processed high calorie easy to overeat foods making a calorie deficit easier, there is no fat loss advantage.

These are tools that you can use to help you in your weight loss journey. They may offer benefits depending on the individual. The fasted cardio is the only one that I wouldn't recommend since it offers zero benefits in my eyes. If anything, it may be detrimental since it may negatively affect energy for said cardio. The same can be said for IF and keto for body composition goals but the pros, depending on the individual, may outweigh the cons. If you like IF, keto, or eating clean and can do it for life, go for it.

I didn't cite any sources I am just going by memory but if anyone has questions, I will most likely be able to find some.

Thank you for the info. Found it very informative especially when it sounds sound not a fly by night advise you find on many sites.

You're welcome, Irishdancer. I just don't want anybody thinking that you have to shoehorn yourself into a certain way of eating because it's supposedly superior. Experiment, use trial and error and figure out what you can maintain for life.

@HCB, out of all of the metabolic ward studies I've looked at there has never been an outlier. You can recomp on keto, I just don't think it's optimal. I am totally on board that preferences and the ability to adhere to a certain WOE are all-important, though, so if you need to cut carbs to have success, then keep it up!

@Kennyn27...so true! I have had to be sedentary for years now due to health issues when I used to be extremely active. I was anxious to get back to feeling like me but was told to go slow. I didn't listen... or, I thought I listened - I didn't realize how slow, slow was. Was doing on what I thought was a simple exercise one day - crashed to the floor had to lay there for a few minutes and roll myself over to get up. Lesson learned.

Diablo, I really appreciate the common sense approach you bring to this community. Your post today is typical of the many great post you have made here and I frequently agree with you and inspired by them. I especially agree with your call for patience, nutrition and sustainable ways of eating. If you leave us for awhile please return soon. I have seen many come, go and come back. The fact is that someone returns here almost every day because they could not maintain their way of eating. When you return, I know it won't be because you failed. I also appreciate your inspiring post about the benefits of resistance training and activity in general. Thanks for all your positive input!!!

@DS saw your anger on your personal post today. I don’t see why you have to go after Diablo. A lot of us lose weight and don’t do KETO. If it works for you, great! We want everyone to be healthy and do what works for them. It’s the only way to lose and keep it off.

Ds does not understand that we post that no diet is superior than others, consequently there is no need to deprive yourself. All we need to learn is eat the right amount of foods for our body. ITS ALL ABOUT THEM CALORIES 😎

Also some of us don’t want to starve than binge eat, starve, binge eat, starve and binge eat ➿🤯. We are really striving to eat healthy, in a healthy manner for body, mind, and soul.
