jmb3450's Journal, 22 Aug 15

197.4 lbs this morning, up a couple pounds this week. I've been having too many little mini chocolates, even though sticking pretty close to my RDI. Tortilla chips at a mexican restaurant last night didn't help the cause, and likely holding some extra water due to muscle soreness. I'll work on cutting out the chocolates this week, other than that just keep on the path. Not unhappy with my weigh in as it's my usual trend of up a bit after a spurt down. Feeling another down spurt coming my way soon.

Can you beleive it, the squirrels have been kind enough to leave 6 peaches on my tree that have ripened. Let's see, average that over 5 years, 2 trees, and that's less than 1/2 peach a year per tree. Matters not as I'm about to enjoy one now for breakfast, sitting on my deck overlooking a beautiful view of the neighborhood. Thanking the squirrels for their generosity. Hummingbirds coming to the feeder, Rose of Sharon in full bloom drawing lots of bees and more hummingbirds, and watching a bluebird sitting on a garden trellis. Sunny, 70 degrees and low humidity. Grilled salmon and zuchinni sticks on the menu for dinner tonight, yum! Have a great weekend!

I battle with the squirrels too. They ate all of my tomatoes while they were green. I picked a couple early, but they didn't ripen well. I tried everything to deter them, but they were unrelenting. I trapped and relocated 7, then I just gave up and let them have the tomatoes. They destroyed the plants.

For the squirrels - buy a few rubber snakes and wrap them around bushes or just let them lay on the ground. You can usually find them at party/gadget stores, I got mine on ebay. I tried everything before against birds and squirrels, owls, fake hawks, hanging CDs from trees, little windmills, nothing worked. I got the rubber snakes last year in spring and never had a problem since, this year I was actually finally able to harvest all my elderberries and blackberries without the birds feasting on them.

Ah, and before I forget, there's a nice calculator that can give you more information about RDI than FS. Find it here )click on the "launch simulator" link and be aware that you need the latest version of Java to run it) http://www.niddk.nih.gov/research-funding/at-niddk/labs-branches/LBM/integrative-physiology-section/research-behind-body-weight-planner/Pages/default.aspx

Sounds like a great day, Jim. Love your new photo, too. Tortilla chips would push me over the edge...meaning I would also gain.

Thanks buddies. Dayberndt - I'm going to try the rubber snakes next year. They worked for a neighbor keeping birds off his windowsills.

Make sure you get snakes that are at least 15" long. If they're too small they don't care about them. My neighbors all complain they can't grow any bulbs in their garden because of squirrels coming and digging them up and eating them - I have no problem with that.

Well aren't the squirrels so generous to leave something behind! I have the same problem with rabbits and birds. I have a pomegranate tree that feeds the birds very well. :) Enjoy your weekend. Dinner sounds yum!
