Fritzy 22's Journal, 11 Feb 24

Not really able to focus on my WOE right now. Seem to have lost my motivation. I know from experience it's never easy for me to get the motivation back. Just hope not to do too much damage as far as my weight goes. Right now my knee issue has just taken over. It was hurting so bad around 3am I couldn't sleep. I see my doctor tomorrow and will see if he needs to refer me to another orthopedist to get a 2nd opinion. Have a name of someone a friend told me about. Knee surgery of any kind is just so upsetting to me

I'm sorry that you're having to deal with what looks like on-going knee pain. I'm thinking you might be happier in the long run getting the surgery. I can totally understand your resistance to do so. I hate any kind of health issues that prevent me from living my day to day life. I hope you can get the advice you need so you can make a decision you're comfortable with. Meanwhile, you might want to just try to maintain your weight til you're ready to fully focus on that. ❤️

Breaks are sometimes a necessary evil. Try not to compound your stress too much, Fritzy. Eventually, things will be on the other (sunnier) side of the hill.

I hear you, Fritzy. On the pain, and the hesitation. I know this is counterintuitive, but try sleeping with a small triangular knee pillow between your legs while you decide. Different than the wedge i think you mentioned before.

Thanks Sherrye, I guess the knee issue is really getting to me. It was so unexpected and I kept thinking if I rested that it would eventually get better. The orthopedist spent no more than 2 or 3 minutes with me at both appointments. I really need to understand what happened, why I just woke up one day with the knee problem and now being told I need the knee replaced. Hopefully my pcp can give me some guidance. I don't know whether it's better to rest the knee or if it's okay to do more walking. This morning I did take a package of chicken breasts and weighed out and froze 4 ounce serving sizes so I can try to get back on track with the eating at least.

Thanks Moko! Hopefully I'll get back on track soon.

Thanks Kat! The wedge pillow should be delivered tomorrow. I am spending so much time, maybe too much, resting in bed either reading or binge watching something and I figured the wedge pillow would work better than putting a couple of pillows under my knees. But I sleep on my side so have tried putting a pillow between my knees. But I usually can't fall asleep with the pillow.

Good luck finding answers. I hope you can work it out without surgery.

I sent a prayer and a hug. I hope you get some relief soon.

I know your pain. 10 years ago, I had a minor, low-speed motorcycle accident. The ER doc didn't prescribe any pain meds. The R knee was excruciating. That night, I found a 10 year old 325 mg codeine tablet from a previous dental surgery, and it allowed me to at least close my eyes while still moaning in pain all night. I've heard that knee surgery is painful afterward, but it's so worth it a month later. Good luck!

Thanks Jdode! I've read that about 3 or 4 days after surgery the pain is the worst!. Right now my knee mostly aches. Don't know why of it gets so bad in the middle of the night. If I remember to take an Ibuprofen before going to bed sometimes I can sleep without pain waking me up.

So sorry. Sending hugs. Hope you have a better day. Can you put a reminder on your phone to take ibuprofen. Lack of sleep will not help either.

Fritzy, so sorry to hear that you are in pain! I sure hope you are able to get the answers you need. I understand about not focusing on your WOE right now. Sometimes we need to prioritize and wrap our brains around what we need to do. I think once you get a second opinion you can hopefully make a decision based on the information you get. Whatever you decide, you’ve got my support ( not that that’s important…but I truly care) 💜💜💜💜

Thanks Liv! I have Ibuprofen on the night stand next to my bed. I took it last night so slept better. I need to take it even if not hurting before going to sleep. It's funny to actually feel the pain while asleep and eventually wake up

Thanks Diana! I have a list of questions for my doctor today and the name of the orthopedist is like to see. I just need to stop giving in to the impulse buys at the grocery store when I'm stressing about my knee and feeling sorry for myself. I do so well when there is nothing bad in the house. I really do appreciate your support

I have knee issues as well. It's frustrating when it keeps you from resting well. I take Advil in the evening to help with sleep. I get knee injections every 3 months but the pain starts back up around 8 to 10 weeks into that. I hope you get some relief for your knee. It is hard to lose weight with diet alone but knee issues make working out a challenge.

Thanks ParaNerdGirl. I try to remember to take or script ion ibuprofen before going to sleep. It often lasts most of the night until knee pain wakes me up around 2-3am. My doctor gave me a cortisone injection about a month ago but it didn't take. He said I wasn't relaxed so didn't think the shot would work. Walking is my exercise of choice. I live in a neighborhood with lots of hills and it good exercise if I can walk for at least 40 minutes to an hour. But the walking seems to hurt the knee. I can lose weight with diet alone up to a point.
