First rule of fasting, never talk about the fasting club!! LOL! I know exactly what you mean Mike, did you get a sermon??

🤣 It's crazy that people look down on fasting the way they do, like it's new & extreme, when it's quite the opposite. It was just daily life to our ancestors. Feeding our faces all of the time is what is new & extreme.

I’m always getting a sermon….I think I’m deaf in that ear…lol

The evidence is all around us, bears pack on the pounds during summer and fall month so they can sleep through the winter, they are thin upon waking, but still strong enough to procure food, deer do the same though they don't hibernate, but their food is much more scarce in the winter months, while we are not animals, we were close enough during our evolution that we lived much the same way and we survived the times when food was scarce. Otherwise, none of us would be here, we have only had grocery stores on every corner for the last 100 years!!!!

If they haven’t traveled the same road…they don’t understand….

Actually, Deb... We are animals, mammals to be exact. The only thing that separates the currently evolved human from animals is the cerebral cortex. Some humans in the current society are definitely a little more evolved than others.

Right, Mike...

I heard somewhere that the first rule of fasting is not to talk about it. It seems to trigger a lot of people. My extended family is particularly smirky about it while they down their donuts (and complain about their lifestyle-induced problems).

Ah yes, my sister gave me the good old “that’s an eating disorder” rant when I told her I was doing 16:8 IF. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I just laughed and told her that was not how it works. I will not be taking diet advice from someone that thinks iced lattes and tequila are their own food group. 😂

Thankfully, my family & friends don't give me a hard time about it. My husband is from a more simple place (Mexico) where they know the best way to lose weight is not to eat. His family is starting to notice the health effects of sugar too. His aunt recently died of diabetes, something that was new to the family. As far as the rest of my family, they know that I don't go into something without thoroughly researching it, and trust my decisions.

That is something I noticed while growing up in Texas, my Aunt married a Mexican gentleman, his name was Manuel, but we called him Tito. He did not eat sweets at all. He loved his refried beans though, made them from scratch. Never canned! He and Aunt Alice lived into their mid 90's He taught her to cook traditional Mexican fare and she taught him english. They had 3 children and a very happy life. I miss them, loved to visit. It's the primary place I got my love for Mexican food. You can't get the real deal around here, have to go back home for that!!!!! He came home for siesta every day, only ate breakfast and dinner....no lunch, no snacks. We did no snacking at Aunt Alice's house!!

I can make a lot of it, Deb. Homemade tortillas, empanadas, enchiladas, refried beans, spanish rice, mole, pozole, tamales, menudo, different salsas, guacamole, pastel de tres leches (Only for holidays), etc... You have not had cake, until you have had homemade pastel de tres leches!!!

They did not even have sugar in the house Zen, Mom and Dad brought sugar for their own coffee when we went to visit. My cousin Chris, he was their youngest, same age as me was talking about when he started school, he said they had cake on the plate lunches and one of this friends shared it with him. He said he thought he had died and gone to heaven LOLOLOL. We had rode our bikes up the little corner store and were pigging out on IceCream sandwiches at the time he was telling me about it. I was like....you had never had cake or pie??? He was like nope! So sad, Chris died 10 years ago, severe complications of diabetes. He had several amputations and died from gangrene. It's not genitics, it's the diet.

So sad, Deb. Yea, times are a changing there too. The part my husband's family is from is really isolated part. It's like a small village in the mountains & desert combined (Guanajuato). His family goes out in nature and harvest wild growing cactus for eating & pick seasonings like rosemary, etc just randomly growing. They use a lot of natural remedies too. One of my sons got sick while we were there. His grandmother made up an herbal tea with the things picked out in nature. A few hours later, he was as good as new. They grow their own crops & store it for the winter. They raise all of their own animals, make their own cheese, yogurt, butter, etc... His sister even had a natural spring that she gathered water from on her property. ...BUT my MIL has a small store; candy, soda, chips, etc. Now, when you travel just a little ways up the road to the nearest city (Leon), you've entered McDonald's territory...lol.
