mrsmole's Journal, 05 Dec 14

Still miserable and sick with strep throat. It got better for a day or two, but now it's back with a vengeance. Still taking antibiotics for another 6 days.

Been mixing it up lately with medium carb and low carb days and that seems to keep my body guessing, resulting in a small but significant drop. I finally feel like I'm in the 180s to stay and won't see the 190s again, ever (knock on wood). Tons of business holiday dinners coming up, but I'm not worries because no matter how amazing anything looks, I have my plan, I bring my own salad dressing and I avoid the breads and desserts like the plague because I know how much my body hates them, and 30 seconds of enjoyment isn't worth a week of compensation.

I'm trying to focus more on the event itself and the people there, since that's what's really important, and less on the food. By eating something before future events, I can ensure that I don't get too hungry or tempted to stray. Last night we had a dinner that was supposed to start a 6PM but we didn't actually eat until 730PM. Of course there was bread on the table for everyone else! UGH!

Hope everyone else is surviving this season with good health and good food choices.

Yay for the 180's. I hit it this morning. I've bee playing around with low/high carb days, but not on purpose... just lost my determination for a couple of weeks. the past few days have been better and my body feels it. Hope you get over the crud soon. Keep on..Dom...

I have been doing a high protein slimfast shake before going to places where theres tons of food, the fiber fills me up and it's easier to try just a smidge of stuff. Any high fiber snack with a glass of water would work.

Hope you feel better. Nothing worse than a sore throat. To me, it's not the Holiday eating that I can't handle. It's what it does to me the days after. I don't mind eating some of the pre-dinner appys, and the big meals with bread and the desserts after. But when you get that TASTE, it seems to turn the ON BUTTONS for your cravings for that stuff. And when you have the leftovers at your house, with the BUTTONS turned ON, it's hard not to finish off the Holiday food that you "don't want to go to waste". Although I've gotten through the Holidays and affairs since dieting, it doesn't get easier to get back into the swing afterwards. I know this Christmas and New Year's will be even more difficult being a week apart along with my B-day which is the X-mas Eve, but from now till then, I'm working on getting myself geared up and psyched into controlling the day of, and the day after.

Feel better soon! Sounds like you have an awesome plan to deal with temptations. Some good advice in the comments here too!

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone! Chillie, I agree 100% about the ON button. For me, it's more difficult to have even one bite of something than to say no completely. Once I get that taste in my mouth, the button is ON, and all bets are OFF! Belkislee, my advice for you is to not be in ahuge hurry to reach your goal. Goals are great and necessary, but if holidays are hard for you or you are coming off a challenging time, you want to give yourself a little breathing room. If you don't, then you stress and you eat more, as you said. Stop stressing, expand your time frame for your goal weight, and relax a little. What's the hurry? There's no cash prize, this isn't "Biggest Loser", so you are the only one to impose these restrictions on yourself. I wanted to be losing 8 pounds/month and I stalled out in July. I had to readjust my goals significantly, but not stress out over it. It's not worth it. Hope that helps!

Good luck to all of you re: that on button. I understand I need to avoid beer that my entire family drinks.

What is it with recent viruses that keep coming and going! Its not fair. I mean, at least come, make us ill than go, don't keep coming back again and again as if we missed you :( I hope you are finally on the mend soon. Interesting that you are mixing up the carb days. I think it works! Good for you for being so focussed on being good in the festive season :) I agree, it is too easy to go off piste if you flick the ON button. But still I dabble with danger :/ I hope everyone enjoys their Christmas and whether you have been good, or not, you arrive in 2015 keen to continue the fight against your inner demons. x

I have found that breads and desserts have too many sugars for me. If I do eat them on a rare occasion, then I am plagued with constipation. It's just not worth it. Hope your strep throat gets healed and you feel better soon!
