Fritzy 22's Journal, 05 Jan 23

Is this only day 5? I'm already getting tired of the new diet. Getting headaches, which I never get. Assume it is caffeine withdrawal so I may have a cup of really boring unsweeteded hot tea later to see if that helps. I'm not craving bad things just don't feel like cooking all the asparagus and brussels sprouts, etc in the fridge. I keep meaning to ask the grocery store if I can buy a smaller amount of asparagus besides what they bundle to sell. It's at least twice what I need. I'm enjoying the fruit just don't feel like cooking the veggies every day, I am making just enough for one meal right now. Waiting for the avocados I bought to get ripe enough to cut. Trying to figure out how to work this diet to something I can really stick to.

Also getting tired of all the rainy days after years of praying for rain to end the constant droughts. Big storm overnight with scary winds but at least the power stayed on where I live. As soon as it gets light, if the rain stops, I'll go out and walk all over my lot to see if any tree limbs or any other damage happened.

Glad you’re ok this morning. Can you freeze some of the asparagus? I mostly buy frozen. Do you have an air fryer that you can just throw things in? I use mine a lot! Can you get some decaf and mix in until you can go all decaf? Just ideas. Enjoy your walk!:)

Thanks Navy wife - I just cooked the remaining asparagus and will eat all or half of it for lunch. I've never seen frozen asparagus and probably wouldn't buy it anyway. I like it but.....I don't have an air fryer. Usually I roast or stir fry veggies. I am not having coffee every day because I add half and Hal and sugar so decaf doesn't help. Hopefully the headaches will stop soon.

The air fryer makes the veggies roasted so something to think about. I hope your headaches will pass soon. It could be just the total diet change up. Similiar to a carb flu and will pass!:)

Navywife, I had a new convection/microwave installed a couple years ago. Apparently the convection oven works the same as a air fryer. I've never used it. I still use an old microwave to heat things up.

an air fryer is the same as a convection oven. you can also roast veggies in the oven at 400/425F when tossed in a small amount of oil. I hope your headache goes away soon!

I hope this new storm coming in doesn't affect you too badly fritz, stay safe. As for your veggies, perhaps a little lemon juice or a good sherry or balsamic vinegar would help? I love veggies so I'm not much help. But, I think you will be more successful if you can find a diet with food you enjoy. Good luck my friend! 💚

We specialize in rainy days here in winter. Nothing but gloom. Good luck with the diet.

I would like to suggest you buy a bag of Birds Eye California Blend, Frozen, 60 oz. OR the Birds Eye Normandy Blend Vegetables, Frozen, 60 oz. I love the Normandy Blend because it comes with Zucchinis too. I am lazy about cutting the veggies and having a million in my fridge. But, I will tell you, I put a portion of this in the pan and steam them, I don't boil them, and when I put it in my plante and try any of those vegetables, the carrots as sweet and have the texture as if I had gottem them fresh, and the same is true to the broccoli, the cauliflouwer, and the zucchini. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Birds-Eye-Normandy-Blend-Vegetables-Frozen-60-oz/11047233 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-California-Style-Vegetable-Mix-12-oz-Frozen/857019836?athbdg=L1600

Thanks A server - I do roast veggies in the oven. Love to roast Brussels sprouts and yams and sometimes asparagus. The headache comes and goes. I don't have one right now and it isn't all that bad. I tend to whine alot.

Thanks Shot - I am really trying to stick to the anti inflammatory diet until the blood test improves. I'm learning like like more vegetables. Brussels sprouts are my favorite and I used to gag just smelling them. My biggest problem is I don't really like to cook. Never thought of sherry on vegetables but I did think about adding red wine last time I used the wok. I'll try that. We got about 2 inches of rain overnight. It is supposed to rain on and off all day.

Thanks Morticia. It's hard getting used to rains and storms over and over after at least 3 years of drought

In my grocery store asparagus is sold by the pound so it is fine to split it up and just take what you need

When I have asparagus and brussel sprouts I roast them all at once. Portion them out and freeze some. Toss each pound of veggies in one tablespoon of olive oil or other light oil. Bake on sheet tray at 400 for 20 to 40 minutes depending on how brown you like them. One pound is 4 servings for me. Mostly salt and pepper is the only seasoning but sometimes I put a teaspoon of maple syrup on the sprouts when I reheat them. Sorry about the headaches but I hope the tea works. I just can't imagine not drinking coffee.

thanks Mary, the grocery store does sell asparagus by the pound by have it bundled with 2 rubber bands. But I think you're right, I could just take out as much as I need. I saw someone do that with grapes that were in bags to sell.

Thanks Abba - no headache right now but I will still have tea. I often roast veggies but don't freeze them. It may sound crazy but I actually like leftovers that are cold the next day! I gave up coffee about 15 years ago when my doctor suggested giving up caffeine when I was having rapid heartbeats. I switched to decaf and after a week or two of that I didn't want it (decaf isn't addicting!). I just started drinking coffee again. I do miss it and may try having it 2 or 3 times a week. I had a cup on day 3.

LOL, Fritzy. I said the same thing today- day 5 and not feeling it- but made it to the gym and so far so good.
