Fritzy 22's Journal, 02 Jan 23

Day 1 on the anti inflammatory diet was challenging. Mostly because I didn't have much of the right food in the house. So it was boring. I miss coffee, I usually have 2 mugs. But the added sugar and half and half isn't allowed and without it, I don't like it. I'm not crazy about hot tea that is unsweetened but I can tolerate it. So I had 2 cups during the day. Still trying to do intermittent fasting so usually 2 meals and snacks. I put chicken that I had cooked in the wok on top of the baby spinach and added 2 tablespoons of chopped walnuts. Didn't use salad dressing so the spinach was boring. But the chicken was good. Today I may use a tablespoon or two of a reduced fat raspberry vinaigrette I found in the pantry. Not going to worry that it is a processed food. It is 2 tablespoons. And the 2 Granny Smith apples I have left after not needing them in the apple cake are really too sour to eat. They are so good in the cake though.

Hope to get to the grocery store today, just the little market in my community because the bigger stores are in an area that got over 9 inches of rain and may even get some snow. I'll stay away. Need avocados and some fruit for breakfasts. Not going to pay $5 for a cantaloupe though! Don't like it enough. May check out frozen fruit and buy some canned pineapple just to have on hand.

Update: I made it to the little grocery store. Was happy to find they had milk, so unusual on a Monday let alone after a holiday weekend. I will have a glass of non fat milk today. They also had pineapple spears! Never saw them at that store because. And fresh blackberries were on sale. 2 of my most favorite fruits. Bought some veggies for a stir fry tomorrow and a container of pineapple orange juice. I know people on low carb diets don't drink juice. But I do at times and right now I am going to have some. I can't drink just water and the hot tea without honey or sugar is so boring. I was thinking about apple cider and making it hot. But they only had apple juice and I'm not sure it would be the same.

I can't stand black coffee either so I don't drink it. I do like decaffeinated tea. I like pineapple and blackberries too.

With time your taste buds will change away from drinking juices or putting sugary things in your coffee. Try coconut water in smoothies rather than milk. I myself cant stand milk plus it’s an inflammatory so i stay away from that

Thanks Morticia! Do you drink the tea unsweetened? Thanks tinytot, but it will not happen. Not at my age. I am not on a low carb diet, just don't want to add sugar. But I'll take 100 fruit juice in small amounts. I drink milk for the protein. The non fat milk is okay on an anti inflammatory diet. I rarely make smoothies but I use to add either a little skim milk or almond milk.

Have you ever tried cinnamon in your coffee? When I'm out of creamer, I will try that once in a while. The coffee cup is a pain to clean afterwards, though.

I'm glad you got some food items that will make it easier. I think the first few days of something new or getting back on track is the hardest. One day at a time!:)

Thanks SteelerJoe - no I've never put cinnamon in coffee! It has to have half and half and sugar otherwise I won't drink it. But cinnamon was listed on the anti inflammatory diet as a food that fights inflammation. Couldn't figure out how I would use cinnamon - can't have toast and I can't bake things that you normally add cinnamon to. So it's an idea.

Navywife - the first few days are difficult but it really helped to get the juice and milk in the house. Beverages are important to me and I need something besides water and unsweetened hot tea.

Nice drop! I put cinnamon in my yogurt, also sprinkle it on apple and banana slices.
