Fritzy 22's Journal, 13 Oct 22

Yesterday I woke up really early. It's funny how before I retired it would take an alarm clock to wake me up and I couldn't wait until the weekend when I could sleep until it got light outside. Now that I am retired I wake around 3-4am and would love to be able to sleep better. I was tired all day. I ate everything I had allowed myself by 11am. I did have some grapes later in the day - around 2 or 3pm. Made a cup of mint flavored tea which is the only one I can drink without at least a little sugar and did okay during the evening EXCEPT for getting a small handful of raw almonds. I think doing IF with a very early window of eating is what makes me so hungry in the early evening and also first thing in the morning. But I have enough trouble figuring out one meal a day plus snacks so I will keep on eating very little after 2 or 3pm.

I'm up again at 4:30. One of my crazy cats started trying to get me up around 3am. He's 20 pounds and like me, starving in the mornings. He kept jumping back and forth over me until I finally gave in at 4:30 and got up to feed my pets. I kept thinking I needed to get up and get him out of the bedroom and shut the door but I was half asleep until I finally got up.

I hope to walk a little further this morning than I did yesterday and do an hour or so of housework. Not much else going on. I went to the feed store yesterday to buy a bag of bird seed and some peanuts for the blue jays and squirrels. They are like my cats - expecting me to feed them. I was totally out of food for them. Within 2 minutes of sprinking seed on the deck rails and filling some tiny feeders hanging on the front porch and the deck there were birds all over the place. The blue jays really watch me and are usually eating peanuts before I get back in the house. I haven't seen a deer since I got home last Friday, which is unusual - they are here all year. This is the time of year the bucks lose their antlers. One year I found 3 out by the fruit trees.

Do you eat breakfast out on the deck after you feed the birds and squirrels? I like to sit out and eat my breakfast while watching them eat theirs.

No Shir - I don't go outside when feeding the birds and squirrels because they leave as soon as I open the door.

We always give in to the fur babies! Lol I feed the birds too. Lots of squirrels but I have nut trees so they do well on their own. So well that they bury nuts in my flower pots and make a mess. I drink Yogi lemon immunity tea without any sweetener and it tastes good to me. Hope you start seeing the deer soon!:)

I can't imagine getting up at 4:30 AM. I'm a bit of a night owl...usually read til midnight- 1 AM. Luckily for me Hubby gets up with the dogs between 8 & 9. When we retired we installed blinds & drapes on our bedroom windows to keep it dark til we choose to open them. That helped so the dogs decided to sleep later.

I struggle with sleep a lot too since I am retired. As a retired nurse my former schedule seems to have permanently messed with my sleep. I do I.F. but don't start eating until noon usually and I still have trouble stopping when I want to. We feed the birds and squirrels too. We saw a deer in the woods behind our house this morning.

thanks Navywife - I don't know why my cats think 3am is time for me to wake up. And then Bobby gets excited too. I need to start training them that feeding time is when it gets light outside. I've never seen Yogi tea. I remember at my previous house my neighbor complained about the squirrels I left peanuts for burying them in her planters. I don't understand about the deer. They are ALWAYS here. Before I went on vacation there were 2 does with fawns that would show up just before it got light in the morning and at dusk as well as several bucks. So far this morning there are no deer.

I wonder if the deer found somewhere else to hangout while your sitter was around. Maybe she scared them off? I hope they figure out you're home now and return.

Fritzy, try the Bengal Spice tea from Celestial Seasonings. It's so good, you don't need sugar. As a change from your lovely mint tea.

I relate to waking up early. I always got up at 5 am when I taught, after I retired I still wake up at 5 or earlier! I wish my body would get with the program...I trained my dog to listen to my clock in living room that chimes. It " goes to sleep" from 9 pm- 6 am and Sydney is super good motivated and will begin obsessively bugging me to feed her 1-2 hours before it's time. ( we feed her 2xs a day) I've trained her to know that in morning when she hears chime to know it's feeding time. It works in morning but unfortunately not at night because it goes off hourly all day..

Bananas - I don't think the housesitter scared the deer away. She lives in my neighborhood so knows all about the deer and even the feral porch kitty doesn't run and hide but lets her feed him/her. I went to the pharmacy a few hours ago and it's 2 miles just to get out of my neighborhood. Didn't see a deer anywhere but I saw 2 fawns on my way home. There are lots of wild turkeys around though. Thanks Larilyn - I'll look for the tea. My favorite tea is just the regular black tea with lemon and honey but I like it sweet so I'm avoiding it. Thanks DIana - I need to train my pets instead of letting them train me. I feed Bobby and the cats 2 times a day and they all start bugging me 1-2 hours early, I guess they think I'll forget if they don't remind me.
