mrsmole's Journal, 10 Sep 14

Just joined 3 challenges. What the hell is wrong with me? Hah! Exercise with your dog, eat 20g carbs a day and lost 10K in 10 weeks. Thanks a lot, Buffy Bear. You're insane. I promise progress, not perfection ONLY on the latter challenge.

Next week I see my doctor to convince him to give me and Rx for Metformin to help stabilize my blood sugar. My hair stylist's ketones are dark purple at 18g of carbs/day and mine are medium pink at 16g carbs/day. I just know that my insulin resistance is making it harder for me to go into ketosis than a normal person.

Darn it.

20 carbs. That's like looking at a slice of bread, isn't it?

P.S. Before you say I don't need meds, please resist the urge -- this isn't about weight loss -- it's about scary high blood sugar levels between 110-125 daily fasting that are scaring me to death. I need to lower those in order to prevent become diabetic. If I become an insulin resistant diabetic, I'm in deep, deep, sh#t, as you can well imagine. Ketosis will come with lower blood sugar levels, weight loss will come with ketosis. It's all connected. But weight loss is just a side effect. Blood sugar is at the heart and soul of this whole deal, and I'm really worried, guys.

I understand your frustration with Insulin Resistance. I was given Metformin but have recently been taken off (so my doc can see if there's been improvement). Losing weight with insulin resistance is like trying to swim up a waterfall! Good luck with your appointment.

I don't think I said you don't need meds I ways saying the honey nut cheerios I try to have in the mornings to lower my cholesterol is over 20 carbs. I am the last person to tell you your wrong. Well unless you try jumping off a bridge I would sure as hell try to talk you back down or lasso you so you can't.

Update: No Deaby16 she is not talking about you. Earlier, I made a comment to Mrsmole where I made a presumption that she should not take unnecessary meds. I apologize to everyone here, as my heart was in the right place, but I stuck my foot in my mouth. I truly apologize to Ms. Mole for that comment.

Deaby16, my P.S> was meant for anyone reading my Journal post and not even aimed at anyone specific. I'm sorry if you thought it was meant for you - it was a sheer coincidence that it appeared after your Cheerios remark. My insulin would shoot through the roof from just a sip of your cereal soak milk at the bottom of the bowl! LOL. It's amazing how much truly better I feel (even if I'm a little tired at times) just reducing my carb intake. Carbs make me sluggish and it's like I have cement running through my veins. It's almost like being drunk all the time, but not in a good way. Maybe hungover is a better description. It's a terrible feeling. Like an allergy. I loved your Cheerios remark and I encourage you to keep making me smile here! Thank you for your input. C67241, I know you love me and want what's best for me. I always assume people come from a place of love first. <<Hugs>>

I think it is great to be able to have this discussion. Being human, we have the tendency to think that what works for us will also be best for everybody else. It is nice to be reminded that each one needs to follow their own path.

Buffy Bear, I couldn't agree more. And since I lost 70 pounds in 9 months "the hard way", I believe I've paid my dues and proved that I'm not looking for a quick fix. However, taking 3 months to lose 10 pounds nearly killed me. Starving and over-exercising and nearly getting an eating disorder over the summer from obsessing as a result of that horror show isn't a healthy solution, either. LOL. I'm really glad we can be open an honest with each other. It's what makes this such a great community. I count on you guys to call me out on my BS when I start spewing it, which I promise I occasionally will, and I will do likewise.
