gilliansings's Journal, 22 Aug 14

I'll take it! I survived the first week of my daughter being gone. I didn't drown my sorrows too much. Tuesday night I got the crappy news that my previous employer not only didn't call me back for an interview on the only part-time job listing to come up in over a year, but they "restructured" the position. Now, even if I wanted to "reapply," it's only every 4th weekend instead of every other weekend. Hardly worth the effort to go through training again and be required to attend monthly staff meetings. So, feeling marginalized and discriminated against, I went to the store and bought some of that yummy, fresh Chicken Mozzarella Ravioli. It was delicious, and I had it for lunch on Thursday too. Delicious but higher in calories and carbs than I usually have for lunch or dinner.

Onward ho! I'm on call from tonight at 5 pm until Monday at 8 am, for which I get a whopping $40. If I get sent out to cover any shifts, I'll get paid the hourly wage as well. I'm hoping I don't get called, but I'll deal with it if I do.

Have a great weekend, guys. Oh, side note: My daughter and I's attempt to "stay connected" by using FaceTime is an epic fail. She has tried to call me three times so far. The first time it connected, but then froze. The 2nd and 3rd times (different days, different times) wouldn't connect at all.

I live in the boonies on the outskirts of a town that doesn't have great cell coverage. It was my understanding, however, that FaceTime could use your wifi connection, which was plenty strong. I need to solve this!!!

Nice weight loss! I hope you can get the FaceTime to work!

Thanks, guys. I am not stressing about whether I hit my exact goal. I am enjoying eating and exercising at this level, so if I keep losing weight gradually doing just what I'm doing now, that's fine. If I don't, that's fine too! Deb, we finally got FaceTime to work!! Apparently, you can't BOTH be utilizing your home wifi. We even both have the EXACT same iPhone 5C, so that can't be the problem. My son (who is pretty tech-savvy) was a bit perplexed too. He suggested we call each other using an email address instead of phone number (when we are both at home trying to use wifi). I haven't tried that yet, but since I was able to reach her from my car and from home, with her being out and about, I am confident we can lick this! Got to see the baby, but the toddler was napping in the car. Better luck next time :-)

So wonderful that your son solved the FaceTime problem, and glad you got connected with your daughter! That will be something to look forward to. :-)

Hate that you are going through these work issues. But best of luck to you with the Face Time. Bet it will be a wonderful tool for you when you get all the bugs out of it.

If Face Time is giving you grief, switch to Skype. Though to be honest I never had a problem with Face Time. Skype is just another option.

Yes, having FaceTime bugs pretty much worked out is great! We have connected three times already! Yesterday we finally had the older child awake and for 30 seconds he was smiling and telling me he wanted to come visit, but then he got shy and whiney and ran to the couch to throw his blanket over himself! I did get a wonderful virtual tour of my daughter's townhouse, which was neat.

That's wonderful that you connected again and toddler was smiling. He will get over his shy feeling soon.
