19 December 2014

Where the heck has December gone? I am settling in nicely with my new clients. The first few days were hard on my body as I attempted to acquaint myself with my clients and their home. My clients eat a fairly healthy, balanced diet and they like me to eat with them, so lunch has been an easy meal for me. I am too busy with them to snack at all, and when I get home I seem to have so much to do that I often don't eat dinner until almost 8 pm. So, despite it being the holiday season, I really haven't had much of an issue. Sorry if this isn't the case for some people. I sympathize. There are some big advantages to living a fairly isolated existence! No holiday parties with rich food!

My clients have an indoor pool (and jacuzzi)! I accompany my client downstairs and stay in the pool with her, so I swim and exercise right along with her! Yesterday I used two special kickboards (that have hand grips built in) to do various arm exercises, as well as to do laps. I could feel a bit of soreness this morning so I know they were effective. We always go in the jacuzzi afterwards, which helps with my back issues.

I haven't done any wrapping yet, but since my daughter and grandsons aren't coming home for Christmas and both my parents live out-of-town, everything got shipped to them either gift-wrapped by the seller or with instructions for being wrapped on their end. That just leaves 5 items each for my husband and two sons. I succeeded in getting all the stocking stuffers yesterday and today (with great deals, too!), so I'm feeling pretty good about things.

Hope everyone is having a good week. TGIF!!

I haven't checked in in quite a while. Sorry! I planned to participate in a local Christmas craft fair and had LOTS of sewing and crafting to do. Then, with Thanksgiving, I spent extra time with family as my daughter visited from out-of-state with my grandsons in tow. That was a crazy few days, but wonderful.

My client of two years passed away unexpectedly the last day of November. This seriously shook me up. Thankfully, I was able to communicate with my client's daughter at length and we both agreed that her mom had had a wonderful last few weeks. I took her mom on a scenic drive and walk along the river on a beautiful 50-degree day back in early November. I made a fuss over her birthday on November 19th. I spent Thanksgiving day with her. I have no regrets. My employer treated me very well and both called me repeatedly to check on my mental state AND sent me beautiful flowers.

Things are better now. The craft fair is over. I got lots of great feedback on my handcrafted kids items (think Superhero capes, crayon caddies, tooth fairy pillows, etc.) Sales were sort of terrible, but I posted them online afterwards and have sold a few more that way.

I've maintained my weight, which makes me feel pretty good about the future. I hope everyone else is doing well and I will make a concerted effort to check in more frequently in the future (albeit not daily, lol)

Happy holidays, everyone!

I had actually reached my goal weight two days ago - 160 lbs., at long last -- YAY!!

But, do to ongoing computer problems (had to return my brand-new Acer Aspire V5 computer, and purchased a Lenovo Yoga 2 as a replacement), I haven't been able to log in.

I had a lovely afternoon and evening with my elder son, seeing his new college apartment for the first time. We had a nice meal (and alcoholic beverage) at a local bar and grill that had the Oregon Duck's game playing (and we were IN Eugene, with all its accompanying festive atmosphere). I ate with the perfect balance - a bit of indulgence and more than a bit of care. That fuzzy navel, though...yummy, but quite an indulgence for me.

We went to a movie afterwards, which was very enjoyable. My son can be a bit of a hermit and introvert, so it was great to have him out and about and TALKING to other people before the movie.

We skipped the snacks at the movie, but that was mainly because we passed a Portland (and now Eugene) cult classic, Voodoo Donuts, and decided to indulge AFTER the movie.

So, long story short, I'm back up to 161.

Since I was 161 lbs. before I left on my vacation September 16th and returned to that weight and maintained afterwards, I feel pretty good about my ability to maintain. I just haven't done any real experimentation in terms of gradually upping my daily caloric intake. It is a little scary to think that I am basically maintaining on only a little higher average intake than during the time when I was losing weight. Then again, I've gone through periods of not losing for 3-4 weeks in the past, so I am willing to give my body the benefit of the doubt.

I have been less active than when I was first began this journey (mostly due to ongoing back problems). This means if I was still trying to lose weight, I would need to adjust my RDI down. Probably explains why I'm maintaining.

That's alright.

Had a very productive afternoon. Left work and did the following errands: bank, mail-in ballot dropped off at City Hall, Amazon return dropped off at UPS Store, quick stop at Dutch Bros. Coffee, dropped paperwork at main office of my employer, and stopped at JoAnn Fabric. On returning home, fed my dogs, then called my mother and chatted for an hour. I just started my third load of laundry back at home (as the change from khaki to black pants in my work uniform now necessitates two separate loads every 4 days for tops and pants).

Tomorrow it's work and a dental check-up. Hope everyone else's weeks are going well.

Well, it only took me 3 weeks to arrive back at this same number, lol. Since I am only 1 lb. away from my goal and maintenance, I am seeing this as a good indicator of my ability to stay in maintenance. Since vacations and holidays are a part of life and I am unwilling to see them as "hurdles" or "scary, bad events," I am embracing the normal parts of life and my ability to incorporate these little deviations from my primarily good eating habits.

That being said, this last week has tested me. Since returning from vacation, I had returned to my regular exercise regimen with great intention, knowing that I feel better when I get regular exercise. I went for one 3.7 mile walk, followed by my normal dvd workout, followed by a slightly shorter 2.5 mile walk over the course of a week. All the sudden, as if I've been away from exercise for months or had done something totally crazy, BOOM!! Horrible, burning pain in BOTH feet and glutes that just WOULDN'T let up for DAYS!!

Today is the first day that I feel semi-normal, and for that I am immensely grateful. Because, let me tell you, these last few days of being virtually bed-bound have led me to have more convenience and/or comfort foods than I usually allow myself.

So, right after work it was off to the grocery store to stock up on lots of yummy vegetables. I had half a BLT and a huge salad and I feel much better.

Have a great weekend, everyone. I get to go on a date with my husband tomorrow! We are seeing "The Judge" and then going out to dinner. We work such crazy, bass-ackwards schedules that I am very grateful to have the weekend off together.
