I've been working hard on not freaking out over the scale. I've been fluctuating between 202 and 206. I've been eating less than 1200 calories a day, but can't seem to make any headway on weight loss (and GERD symptoms are terrible). Doc set me up with the other doc in his office to focus on nutrition and perimenopausal symptoms. *sigh* Feeling kind of dejected because we've already been over this. (Fresh eyes... okay) Finally getting a dermatologist to address Psoriasis and HS (which is flaring). Still haven't reached out to anyone about the arthritis... I feel like I am too young to feel this old. I keep trying to address these issues now so I can remain active well into my 80s, but I feel like maybe that's just not in the cards for me. Maybe it's in my dna to be an old decrepit lady by the time I reach my 60s. Has anybody else had these wild physical/hormonal issues with perimenopause and evened out once menopause finally arrived? Considering I just started again, I've got a ways to go. Is there light at the end of this tunnel?

Oh, dear, have you had your thyroid checked?

I'm 60 and I have had similiar issues. What is working for me to stop/slow autoimmune responses like arthritis and eczema is drop ALL sugar, drop ALL grains. I try to make my calories come from vegetables, fish, meat, and easy on the dairy. My son is in his 20's and dropping gluten grains has really helped his skin. Each person is different, and your body will definitely whack out during those menopause days but it will level out. Keep at it!

Thyroid is a little sluggish. I take 12.5 mcg levothyroxine. I made them check again recently to be sure it wasn't out of whack. I did an elimination diet and discovered nightshades were triggering me, so I cut those out. I don't do a lot of dairy and all my grains are whole. I'm starting to think the only things I can eat are carrots and squash! LOL!

NO - you are not supposed to be old and decrepit! I quit grains and most dairy years ago and the inflammation stopped! I am 65 and in better health than I was at 50!

I got a very good feeling from this new doctor. She actually spent a full hour going over everything with me: all the symptoms, what I've achieved, all the changes I've made, what worked and what didn't, the frustration over gaining despite all the work and restrictions. We talked about hormones and perimenopause. She was also a personal trainer before becoming a doctor, so she has an insight I haven't found in my previous physicians. I left feeling encouraged.
