CrashtestDawnie's Journal, 09 Sep 19

So yesterday was deadlift day 😁 My body was still seriously sore from squat day however I NEEDED to workout 😅 I had eaten 2800 calories the day before and I'm trying to go to the gym 4 days a week so I WENt. I worked up to 95# pulls. Mid through my second set, I felt like I was pulling with my back a lill so I adjusted. Wow do my hamstrings hurt! I did a couple of pulls kinda like a stiff leg deadlift instead. I wish the gym's mirrors went down low so I could get a good look at my form 😒 I went to work right after my workout and I could tell immediately that I would be in pain. My feet also hurt after deads. I guess from all that pushing with my feet 😁 On the bright side, my quads don't hurt anymore 😋

Ok, just gotta say, my dog does bend and snap on her back when she wants belly rubs! Played that scene for rm. We always say "bend... and snap!" to her. ..

You are a beast in the gym, dawnie! But take it easy on your feets... Or get some kangoos, lol!! 😇

that's how you know you're going properly heavy 😈 though I have a harder time tolerating the sore feet than sore legs for some reason lol

Working out when you don’t want to is the best once you do it!

🤣 I can totally imagine your dog’s bend and snap 😜

The sore feet is super annoying but only last for a short bit so I can tolerate it and Yeah every time I talk myself into going to the gym even though I don’t really “feel” like it, it’s always a great workout!! Maybe I push myself a lill harder to make it worth it 😇

Sorry about the pain but you are doing a super job with your gym schedule - you must be in amazing shape!!!! Hope the soreness goes away quickly!!

OMG the bend & snap!

Thanks guys 😊 I’m not in great shape yet but getting stronger and stronger every month! I was foam rolling my hamstrings this morning and had to stop to admire how nice my legs look while sitting 🤩 Standing is another story though. Damn gravity 😕

Sorry you were so sore! Form is something I can’t seem to get down with my dead’s. I can pull 135# on the smith machine but like 90 with the small bars. I can always tell I use my lower back. Was told flutes should be worked but never feel pain in my arse? Lol. (Insert kid joke here) good for you getting your good form down!

Lololol I guess I’ve been using too much lower back to pull because my hammies are so ridiculously tight I can barely walk. After a few miles (at work) all I can do is shuffle 😅😅😅

Peepers and Dawnie, more experienced lifters may correct me if I'm wrong, bit I think the depth of the part that's basically a squat is what works the lower parts of your legs. My concern would be if you have a rounded back (shoulders forward) you'll feel the pain in your lower back. Think above the butt but below the ribs. I think that's the sign that you're putting dangerous stress on your back. I think lats are the muscle that should work the most, but my dad's always leave lats, glutes and hams burning.

My deads leave those muscles sore, not my dad's. Thank you very much autocorrect for that awkward as hell typo😂

Ugh my lats just don’t seem to want to wake up! Super annoying! I do lat pull downs and face pulls to activate them but they are never sore. The bottom part of the traps and the rhomboid muscles are sore but not those damn lats 😒

Lol my phone use to autocorrect to that too until I kept changing it 😄

The main motion of a deadlift is a hip hinge. Hip thrusts and back extensions are awesome accessory exercises to practice engaging the glutes, and bracing your core.
