SoCalPam's Journal, 28 Nov 18

I'm inching my way back up, which is not my goal. Lately it's been one party after another and I'm eating so many different types of things that I can't figure out how to log it -- so I don't. However, I know that logging my food is the way to focus my eating and keep on track, so I'm renewing the promises I made to myself when I got on this WOL. I'm proud of myself for only going up a couple of pounds, but I'm annoyed that I have to lose that weight over again.
68.4 kg Lost so far: 9.2 kg.    Still to go: 7.1 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

You’re right - a couple of pounds up but you can get right back to getting them off! Are you experiencing pain from eating different things? That’s the first thing that happens to me along with losing mobility in my ankles, shoulders and headaches! Makes it much easier to get back on track - damn wheat and grains!!!

Log something. Better to overshoot than pretend you did okay that day. Being under a few calories never killed anyone. 😂

Pam— when I eat resturaunt food or food that someone else and even sometimes me cook and it is I,possible to break down I usually just made a note on my log of what I made or what I ate. You know portion sizes, you know what a starch, protein, fat is., you can mentally give a thumbs up/down to what you have eaten. It just is not possible to accurately log Holliday food, resturaunt food.. just thumb up or down and move on. I am a believer in a goal of maintaining your weight not obsessing on losing between thanksgiving and Christmas..

I haven't been noticing significant pain from anything I've eaten, but I also make fairly decent choices (because I know I might have pain!) I've also spent the last 3 weeks doing the hylauronic acid injections in my knee which have hurt and not motivated me to move around much. I perceive about 40% improvement from them overall, so I guess they were a good choice. ??? Not noticing any improvement when I take OTC pain meds (Aleve, ibuprofen), so have been abstaining. I'm focusing on cleaning out my body and getting back to basics now and doing what y'all have said: logging what I can and not stressing. I've been doing really well for most breakfasts and lunches, so the odd dinner that's out of whack "shouldn't" be a problem. However, I'm looking at the calendar and there are three parties on the horizon... :)

Pam, I love your profile pic! At least you know the reason for the small increase in weight. You're still dealing with your knee and reduced activity, so good for you on figuring out what you need to do. 😊

Don’t let a few pounds deter you. Get back on track. If you can find out from the host what they are preparing ahead of time that way when you get there you can pick/choose what to eat. If I’m going to a rest I go online and view the menu first and choose my entree before I get there. If my friends are getting appetizers I split the dish with them or eat half and take the rest home, same with the entree.

Hi, Pam what app do you use to log your food? You may not loos for a week or two in lbs but then you might be loosing in inches. If you are on FB look up TeamEnpowered for coaching, food ideas, and help. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1207431279325515/

My party stay on track trick is to just take half of what I would like to take. You still get to try all the neat stuff but you'll be doing it in moderation. My other trick is to drink water at parties with a slice of lemon or lime - no alcohol! The drinks can be sneaky sources of extra calories. Consider also that party food can be salty; your extra ounces may just be fluid retention from eating more salt than that to which you are accustomed. You're doing great; don't beat yourself up so much.

For logging food, when I'm not sure, I try and search for something similar and then add extra servings to simulate a "worst-case-scenario". It doesn't always work but at least it's something to keep myself accountable. My issue is logging exercise. I like how "sitting" is an option. I'll put down 6 hours of that, but I have no idea if I am actually sitting for 6 hours. Driving was also an option, if I recall correctly. It's been awhile since I was on top of this stuff, actually, which is why I'm back on here trying to get myself back on track again.

Carolyncasi, I've done similar things. I haven't logged my activity in a long time, but I definitely count driving! I live in So Cal, so the aggravation I build up on the freeway must be burning SOME calories, right?

Driving in Southern California - 😨😲😭

I do something very similar to Carolyncasl. I will find something similar and upsize my portion for worst case. Seeing the risk in numbers really helps me think twice.

And just a reminder to FS users of the food diary—sooo many items are wrong a good portion of the time. Too bad a different system isn’t available. As I was cooking over thanksgiving I came across at least four items that were Just inaccurate.. Even the same item, same brand, same measurement/quantity were considerably different. Just be aware.

Kenna Morton you are right about that.

You'll be gaining and losing a few pounds here and there for the rest of your life, it's nothing to stress over. Just a part of life. :)
