Timg2500's Journal, 11 Dec 16

So. I haven't logged in the past couple of days simply because of... embarrassment.

Pros: I have kept up with focusing on healthy meals. Veggies and lean meats. Minimal carbs like bread and such. Heck, today's linch consisted of a large steamed artichoke, plain chicken breast strips, and mushrooms. I have been drinking alimond milk unsweetened and only plain oatmeal, Cheerios or shredded wheat if I do have carbs.. I had a company Christmas party yesterday and I grabbed chicken breast and removed the skin. I had green veggies with it too. When it comes to exercise I've been keeping up with my push-ups. I did a set of 95 on Friday evening. Felt GREAT. I haven't done much cardio yet. I did something like 50 sec of planks too.

Cons: MY DOWNFALL: I have not been able to stay away from snacks. Be it popcorn, or a handful of chips, a cookie.", etc etc. more than I've I need support and help on trying to get all of that back under control. . Any suggestions you can give to help me curb the habit and shock my system back on track, I'm all ears.

Hey Tim, don't beat yourself up!! My suggestion is to go back and record your snacks as best you can and record them going forward. I'm like you and Bill, there are some things that I have a hard time with; pizza, ice cream, and salt & vinegar chips come to mind...they are just hard for me to eat a reasonable (calorie wise) portion. But by tracking those items it REALLY FORCES ME TO THINK...is this really worth it and more importantly what am I going to do that next day or week to get my average deficit back in order. For me it's usually a longer workout and an intermittent fast to get things back on track. Finally certain foods I just can't have in the house all the time, or eat on a regular basis, otherwise things coukd go the wrong way fast. Good luck mate, hope you find something that works for you!!

Do you have this stuff in house? If so, get it out of the house. Are you snacking out of boredom, stress? Maybe before the snacking enter the item in your food diary and that may deter you from eating it? If you know you can't eat a reasonable amount of something don't eat it. Fresh popped popcorn isn't terribly bad unless you are pouring tons of butter and salt on it. Try snacking just on that IF necessary. Put the popcorn in small bags portioned out and have that.

@CCbabcock --> I wish it was that simple. No most all of this is actually at work. I work for a construction GC and you get subcontractors dropping off "Christmas goodies" all month long. I actually eat snacks in both situations. I oddly have extreme control under pressure. If I'm running and doing, and busy I can control urges. However, the downside to my industry is that the pressure comes in waves. 1 day I'm screwed for time, and the next I'm wondering what more to do. The food diary is definitely the way I'm trying to go. I think I'm going to try the popcorn option. I have a bunch of plain at home and I'm ok with that. May just pop a big pot tonight.

You might also try drinking a glass of water before snacking if you feel hungry? Or perhaps some sugar free gum to keep your mouth busy? You could also try having bags of carrot sticks/celery sticks/apple slices/etc. Just something healthy or healthier (like CC suggested with popcorn) on hand to eat. After all, the main problem might not be the fact that you're snacking (as long as you're hungry), but that you don't have something better for you as easily accessible as the cookies and such.

Pack acouple of mugs of warm liquid - coffee or tea with cream and stevia. It's a filling treat and it keeps you from the carbs.

I like snacks too. I just log them and try to be honest with myself. Usually, I can maintain somewhere near my RDI even with snacks. I plan for them...
