Fritzy 22's Journal, 18 Jan 24

I went to WinCo the other day before meeting my friend at Red Robin. The plan was to spend $80, but it ended up at $130. For those who don't have Winco's, you have to bag your own groceries and they have all well known brands as well as generic. A huge bulk food area, with every candy you can think of, plus grains, nuts, seeds, even dog biscuits. I bought chopped nuts. Also bought a case of diet Pepsi and 12 pack of diet 7up. I shouldn't be drinking them but get so bored with water. Drinking one can a day currently, will try to go 1 can every other day and eventually just one or 2 a week. An impulse buy was Tyson breaded chicken patties. I may have had them 15 years ago or more. But only 10 carb grams and 9 grams of protein. Didn't buy any food I shouldn't, ignored the bakery department (love ciabatta rolls) and the cheddar caramel corn mix.

Working on staying below 100 carb grams, would rather be closer to 80 and eventually 60. I can see that will mean less processed food. I am thinking I will drop off some canned foods, high in sugar at the food bank when I go into town tomorrow for my appointment with the orthopedist.

Thought I would have mocha this morning (thank you Buenita) by adding a tablespoon of Ghirardelli hot cocoa mix to my mug of coffee. But it needed 2 tablespoons. I will have to have the hot chocolate very rarely, like days I have liquids only. Founds some k cups of dark chocolate cocoa, I think they are 60 calories.

Trying to figure out how to make something taste better. I mixed a can of albacore tuna with chopped nuts and smashed up avocado to avoid mayo. But was pretty bland. I bought a can of chopped black olives I will try to add, and maybe slice up a hard boiled egg. The chopped olives are good, like a spread, I have used on veggie sandwiches before. Any suggestions? I don't like spicy.

I always add fresh lemon juice and chopped scallions when I make tuna. It wakes up the flavor quite a bit. Congrats on avoiding the ciabatta rolls and the cheese and caramel popcorn…two of my favorite things. And I, too, help myself to a Diet Pepsi or 7-up more than I should, even though I know they are terrible for me. I try to limit it to no more than 3 a week, although I’m not always successful. You can’t give up everything! Have a good day!

I add pickles & mustard to my tuna. You can use dried mustard or regular. I also put in a sprinkle of celery salt. Usually, add a hardboiled egg.

I am noting down WinCo. There is one I can visit when I head down to the US for a grocery shopping trip. Good job on your choices. Those are important. With tuna I like onions. Well I like onions with everything... my favourite veggie/ I also like celery for crunch. If you do not want to do mayo some low fat yogurt would work.

Winco is an interesting place. I enjoy shopping there for certain items. I like the fruits and vegetables they offer and the bulk foods, but some of the main stream items, at least at my local store, are more expensive than everyone else. I know each store has its own price points yet this surprised me greatly

Thanks Broccilibabe, I thought about green onions, I think they are the same as scallions. I'll have to think about lemon juice. I just get so bored with water. I found a bottle of cranberry juice in the garage refrigerator. Trying to figure out when I can have 6 or 8 ounces with my carb limit.

To tuna I add a little lite Miracle Whip, mustard, hard cooked egg white, celery, dill relish, dill pickles, green onion, and carrot shreds.

Thanks Sherry, I just bought a small bottle of French's mustard yesterday. What I use doesn't up to more than a couple tablespoons a year. Ill try a tiny bit. No pickles in the house, but the black olives will give it some flavor

Thanks Liv, I can buy just a stalk of celery at my grocery store. I had thought about it. I smash the avocado instead for having mayo

Thanks Daddy, I noticed WinCo keeps prices on many items low for so long then raise them. So keep checking your favorite items. I like the prices of some, not all dry cereals. Often a box of cereal will go stale before I finish so I like that they have some smaller boxes and low prices. But you are right, you have to know what's a good deal!

Thanks Morticia, I'm avoiding mayo, so also Miracle Whip. The smaller avocado is instead of mayo. But I will add most of what you listed. The chopped nuts really add a crunch!

Fritzy, once you move, try looking into a SodaStream or similar. It lets you carbonate your water at home and you can add juice or other flavorings. They deliver the cartridges via USPS so you don’t have to go to the store, but they also carry them at stores like Target.

Thanks Kat, I've seen it advertised on TV. Maybe I'll check it out. Do you have it? Can you come up with anything like 7 up? Oh, maybe orange.

They got bought by Pepsi a few years ago, so they have all the Pepsi brands. I drink unflavored sparkly water, I like their version of diet Dr. Pepper and adding things like lemon juice, etc. Do not buy the syrups on Amazon. You get gouged. I also don’t use as much as they recommend when I do make actual soda. If you buy new, look for a gift pack which will have samples. I exchange my tanks via mail. I used to take them to the store, but got lazy.

I read your bio and I can totally relate to your all or nothing mentality.

I shop WinCo regularly. I always pick up the bulk greenies and other treats for our son's Doberman.

Thanks FLORIDA, right now I am all in on how I eat. But not exercise until I get the doctor okay me talking some long walks with my painful knee. Will see orthopedist tomorrow.

Thanks Tink! I stayed out of the pet food isle because I wanted to not spend more than $80. My dog has plenty of treats, including greenies at home now.

Close to what Sherry B said. I add a little relish (alternative to pickles, not too bad), a little mustard, celery diced small for crunch. I have also found the olive oil Hellman's, a lot more reasonable calorie and fat wise. (I can't deprive myself of mayo, my Achilles' but I can modify)!
