Fritzy 22's Journal, 15 Jan 24

I'm kind of enjoying paying attention to carbs instead of focussing just on calories and protein. My goal is not to go over 100 grams of carbs. I may drop that to 70-80 in a month or two. I log in what I intend to eat on most days so I have to play around with what I am eating to meet that goal. If I have hot chocolate in the morning, it really limits me for the rest of the day. Lots of carbs in the Ghirardelli mix ( not looking for suggestions on alternatives!). Today I had 1 mug of coffee, I used to have 2. Since reducing how much sugar and half and half I put in it the coffee has been less appealing. Today I had the usual amount of h&h but had 2 teaspoons of sugar instead of one. Still way less carbs. Since I will have my last meal between noon and 2pm I plan on a small meal around 9:30, half a grilled cheese sandwich. I have American cheese in the refrigerator, grilled cheese for me has to be American cheese. I'm going to WinCo tomorrow, over an hour away because everything is so much cheaper there. Want some nuts from their bulk food isles and some low fat mozzarella cheese sticks. Need to resist their package of cheddar cheese and caramel corn mix! And their ciabatta rolls, love to bake them and load up with butter. Maybe I'll check out the carbs on a half roll.

I have a 100 net carb a day limit. I also focus on fiber, protein, and calories.

Thanks Morticia! I was looking up fruits with lowest carbs. Bananas are really high and I like them sliced over oatmeal. Looks like raspberries and blackberries are my best choices. Maybe even the pineapple spears I get sometimes.

If your counting carbs berries are your friend. Raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries are the lowest in carbs. ♥️

Thanks FLORIDA! I had just looked that up! Raspberries and blackberries are my favorites anyway . Also pineapple chunks or spears, 4 ounces work too.

I like counting carbs as well. I eat berries more than any other fruit. Great for you and low carb .win win. I mostly eat raw vegetables when I snack but love berries in mid afternoon.💜

Thanks Diana! So far working on keeping carbs less than 100 grams is keeping me from eating things I normally wouldn't think twice about. For example a salad mix I bought a week ago had a little package of crunchy chow me in noodles and they are still on the counter until I have a much lower carb day. And last night around midnight when I needed something to eat before I took an Ibuprofen I ignored the half box of saltines I have, didn't want risk opening a new sleeve. I did toast half a slice of bread which I logged for breakfast. I love berries and it sounds like grapefruit might be lower in carbs as well

I think one advantage with focussing on carbs is that it makes you cut out a lot of food especially snack food. Many people like to eat meat with cheese but even those meals such as pizza and burgers have loads of carbs. Counting carbs make you think abit about nutrition as well because you have to make the ones you are taking in count. At least that is how I do it

Thanks Liv. I know I am not low carb by many people's standards but it is lower than usual for me. I tried to not let carbs get too high but seemed to get to 140 or 150 grams. Now I even p!It out different combinations in the food diary to what will work if I have hot chocolate, or oatmeal with a sliced banana. I bought some raspberries and blackberries today because they are lower carb fruit

Rasberries and blackberries are great. I think strawberries are the lowest. Veggies are very good if they are non starchy

Thanks Liv, I also got some pineapple spears which are okay at 4 ounces or less. I may stir fry next week, Brussels sprouts, mushions, onions and maybe spinach with chicken
