Fritzy 22's Journal, 21 Nov 23

Just saw a beautiful steller's jay eating the bird seed I put on the deck rails! I've only seen them a couple times in the 12 years I've lived here. I remember them from the Tahoe area. I get scrub jays every time I put peanuts out.

Already messing up for my holiday goals! A neighbor did a Costco run yesterday. At the last minute I asked her to get one of their huge apple pies. I thought I would freeze it and later share at a family dinner (we are not meeting on Thursday). But I got up in the middle of the night and had a pretty big piece! THEN I had another piece for breakfast, just a normal size. Since then I've cut into slices and put in the garage freezer. Hopefully I won't have more for a week or so and then just a tiny piece. Oh well. Then I remembered the challenge I set up doesn't start until Thursday so I will try to refocus. I also got a rotisserie chicken. First time in over 3 years but same price! I don't like dark meat so last night I had a small amount of breast meat and gave Bobby and the cats (even Porch Kitty) some dark meat. Now Bobby and the cats follow me every time I go to the kitchen and the cats meow at me, they all know the chicken is in the refrigerator. I will forget about the pie I ate and just try to get back to normal. I went to the grocery store at 7:30 this morning because I can't deal with holiday crowds. They had some really good deals so I bought a bag of baby carrots for $1, also got potatoes and onions and will make either chicken stew or a chuck roast (also from Costco) in the next week or so.

The knee is much better. I can put my full weight on it without limping. But it still hurts, especially if I take Bobby for a walk. But I'm hopeful that will get better soon.

I did the fried egg in Asian style soup and loved it! Thank you for that idea. My cats love rotisserie chicken too (as do I). I have to give them a bunch so I can eat in peace. But I prefer the dark meat personally.

When the naughty white dog won’t come in at night, i open the fridge door and make noises with the chicken. Works almost every time.

In my area titmice love peanuts. I don't like dark meat either. I love apple pie.

Pie here or there is fine. Just not an every day food perhaps. Enjoy it and move on. No worries and no regrets Fritzy. 😘

Thanks Cj, I had forgotten how nice it is to get a rotisserie chicken for a few easy meals. 2 of my cats go crazy for it, the 3rd cat, Fritzy doesn't pay any attention

Kat, that's funny. When my cat sneaks outside and refuses to come back in he'll coming running when I shake the canister of Temptation treats. We have to figure out ways to do what we want!

Thanks Morticia! I get t it ice too and was so surprised when I first saw the tiny little bird fly away with a peanut. I started shelling of them so it would be easier. I also get nuthatches that like peanuts.

Thanks Wifey! The Costco pie is just so big but hopefully I'll forget about it after putting hit in the garage freezer.

We just left Sam's Club and their pies are huge! My husband wanted to buy an apple pie but didn't because he said he would do exactly what you did. He loves his apple pie and at least you put it away...he wouldn't...🩷🥧🥧🥧

Bless you Fritzy! I had a run in with cookies this week...4 days of no control. Prayers for healing of that knee. Pain knocks the starch from our sails and drops the joy factor several notches. be gentle and loving with yourself...

Thanks Diana! I figured it was a mistake to get the pie, but I just couldn't resist! The price is good. I usually buy the pie and share at a family meal and am happy to just have a small piece. I may still take half the pie to share with my sister and brother in law when they get back after Thursday. I think I'm just super motivated to lose some more weight and that's why I think I can ignore the rest of the pie for now.

Thanks YOH! I've had bird feeders every place I've lived for the past 35 years. Missed chickadees when I moved here but discovered so many new birds. Wondering what birds I'll get when I move to Oregon. Hopefully not sea gulls or I'll have to buy them French Fries. I'm not stressing about the pie I ate. I did fine the rest of the day yesterday and should be okay today.

Thanks Brenda! I try not to buy cookies unless I'm at a bakery and can just get one! At age 68 I am getting used to pain. After years and years of shoulder pain, it just stopped hurting. Now it's my right leg. Last year I had to go to physical therapy for the leg, I couldn't bend my leg to put my shoes on. Now that's much better and now it's the knee. But at least I can walk, I couldn't put any weight on it for 2 weeks. The pain isn't that bad as long as I have Ibuprofen!

Neat about the birds! I’m on Thanksgiving’s vacation and find that when I’m not on my work schedule, I want to eat more. I’ve been splurging a bit, too! I will refocus my calories after vacay because I’m not going to deny myself this week or Christmas week of some splurges. Still counting calories and trying not to go TOO crazy except actual Thanksgiving DAY! 😜

steller's jays are provincial birds here. They are pretty. But their sound is a bit ... hmmm...not pretty...Sounds like you have been able to refocus. I am in your challenge. Need to set some goals

Thanks StormsGirl, when I was working I knew I would probably gain weight when I retired. And I did, about 30 pounds pretty quickly. I was very disciplined with my eating during the work week but not on weekends, vacation time, etc. I remember grocery shopping on Fridays after work and buying 5 apples for the work week. Never would eat an apple on the weekend. It's been 12 years and I'm still trying to figure out something that will work long term for me. The fact that the advice I get for my knee, leg,and back pain is to lose excessive weight is becoming motivating! I do try to practice portion control even making 1/4 grilled cheese sandwich once! Anyway thanks for the kind words. The knee pain isn't bad, more like an ache
