I bought a different coconut oil yesterday - Nature's Promise Organic Extra Virgin. This is an unrefined oil, the other brand I was using, LouAna, was a refined oil. The unrefined is supposed to be better, has beneficial stuff that's removed in the refining process. Smells and tastes better also - has a coconut smell to it and a coconut, buttery taste. Would probably be good on vegetables instead of butter, will try that. At more than 2x the cost of the LouAna it needs to be better!

Sounds good. Let us know how it tastes. I've been surprised I can't taste coconut in the coconut oil or coconut butter I buy. Maybe mine is too refined?

Hipaagrammy, check the label. If it doesn't say stuff like cold pressed, unrefined, organic, extra virgin, then it's probably processed and refined. Not that it's bad, as far as fat content, type of fat and ketones my understanding is that's the same in both kinds. The virgin unrefined stuff has other things in it that get removed in the refining process, supposed to have additional health benefits, don't remember what they are and too busy right now with work to look it up online. :)

I was resistant to the coconut oil craze until I tried it in the Bulletproof coffee and melted it into my power shake before the gym! I feel energized and more clear mentally when I have a serving. Weird but good!

Maybe I'll get some this weekend and throw into my protein shake in the morning.

Rockiesfan - be sure to melt it first! It is solid and will taste yuck if you do not melt first!

HCB - Studies have shown that ketones released by the liver when coconut oil is metabolized are used by the brain as fuel. It's also supposed to boost HDL cholesterol. My last lab tests showed an increase of HDL by 6 points over the past 3 months. I'm sold on the health benefits.
