jmb3450's Journal, 01 Jun 14

Today was a great day in every way. Started out with meeting my weight goal for month 1, then an excellent church service...had a really good time playing music and the sermon was better than average. Came home, did several hours of yard work, helped the wife plant some flowers, then cooked hamburgers, shrimp and hot dogs on the grill. The hot dogs aren't for me but we're set now for the week with grilled meat in the fridge ready to be heated up and served or whatever we want to do with it. Can't beat food cooked on a charcoal grill in my opinion.

Now I'm going to start a small batch of blackberry wine. It'll only be about 6 bottles. I'm going to fortify it with vodka before bottling so it'll be more like a blackberry port. Going to put some wildflower honey in it also, that should be good. About a year from now I'll know how it turns out, winemaking takes patience. By then I should be at the weight I want to be so having some now and then shouldn't be a problem.

Sometimes life is hard and sometimes it's good and you feel blessed. Today I feel blessed. Thank you Lord.

Sounds like an incredible day. I love cooking on the grill, but I have to admit I have gas ( the gas grill not me personally, although time will tell ) jk. The wine sounds pretty good, you will have to let us know how it turns out a year from now, you might have to remind me though I am very forgetful. Have a great week.

There's nothing wrong with gas. I just love my Weber kettle, been using one for decades and I know how to use and control temps for many different things. Good blackberry wine is excellent, hopefully this will turn out good. I've never had a wine turn out bad, some are just better than others.

I'm with you on the Weber kettle grill. I love the food cooked and smoked with charcoal and chips. I never could get into the lava rock thing, but DD uses a gas grill all the time and the food tastes great - just not as good as mine. :D

Where do I put my order in for that wine?

Ches, I wish it was attachable to email. I've got a brother and a buddy who make beer and are real connoisseur's of beer and wine. We've had some interesting tasting get-togethers. I'm more of a DIY'er and just enjoy making it and enjoying in moderation on occasion. I really want to make a hefeweizen beer but I know that'll hamper my efforts to lose weight so I'm putting it off for now. Most beers are drinkable after 4 to 6 weeks from the start, wine takes a lot longer so I'm safe doing the wine for now.
