Kenna Morton's Journal, 05 Apr 21

An all carbohydrate dinner tonight. One of my good friends of 25 years with the diabesity (type two) apparently took an Easter holiday from any attempts at managing her blood sugars and went off the rail eating. . She had another heart attack last night. 2nd in two years. They took her to surgery, she already has stents in place . She is alive as of now, but we will see how it plays out.. sometimes “be kind to yourself” and “you got this, “ just doesn’t work.” But then neither did any other approach we tried. We, her friends, just had to stand by and watch her self destruct. I’m headed back to the hospital— they said I might be able see her in a bit. Just have to wait in my car until they call. Or just go home for the night after while when it gets chilly. Don’t play RUSSIAN roulette with your health— you will always loose.

It must be so difficult for you, feeling pain and anger and love all at the same time. Holding you and your friend in my heart. 💜

Praying for you both. I am that person. Almost died last year. Sadly, I understand your friends mentality. Through God's grace, am turning it around. How nice that she has a friend like you.

You are a wonderful friend to care so much. I am an Er nurse and I couldn’t wake my self up. Then one day it just clicked and I made the decision to be healthy. Self realization is the only way. But , just as you witness here, support is everything. Hope she gets well soon. Just keep sharing your experience with her and your journey to better health will definitely help her ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏

What Ettenauj and Ocean_girl said is true. People need to come to the realization themselves. It's hard to say what exactly will start the change, and sometimes it's not a big frightening event like a heart attack as we might imagine. I know that I resented pressure and well-meaning comments from family when I was heavier. They made me even more defiant, and I often felt it was not about health but about aesthetics which made me even angrier and more resentful. No well-meaning advice that I didn't ask for ever helped me. In fact, it might have been a block. I suspect it's not like that for everyone but for many of us, it is.

My friend died this morning, just a couple of hours agp.. I hope the rest of my friends who also suffer from diabesity will take this as their 2 am last call and do whatever they need to do to get help for their own issue. Very sad.

Sorry to hear about your friend's passing. One of my girlfriends had a stroke after eating a Snickers bar following a big meal and beer. She hit her head falling on a bookcase, which amplified the problem. Like your late friend, she knew better, but sugar addiction is a powerful problem. It feels frustrating for friends. But diabetics think that it didn't kill them last time and the time before that, so why should it today? Sigh.

JustBananas— over the years she was “fired” by at least two, maybe three, doctors for non compliance . They sent her letters saying they could no longer participate in her care.

My sincere condolences for the loss of your friend. I understand that wake up call moment - and they have to want to make the change. Take care of you and use experience this as a lesson for others on your journey. Prayers.
