Kenna Morton's Journal, 22 Dec 20

Lunch with the other 3 gals in my friends POD. So wonderful to spend some time with them. no calorie count for today because we did home made Chinese. We did a great job, I was really impressed how close we got to the taste of our favorite restaurant’s dishes. Then I made apple pie for dessert. It was great as well. I’m full. We picked oranges, lemons, limes and baby bananas from our friends’s trees. They are always so good. Just waiting now for kumquats and avocados to be ripe. The biggest avocados you will ever see. They are monstrous. The gal’s mother brought the seedling with her from Puerto Rico when she came here as a young women 60 years ago. They look like a HASS with the same color skin but about 3 times the size of the biggest HASS you have ever seen and they are smooth as butter inside, but they are not HASS—. Cant wait. Another few weeks she said. There are literally hundred on the tree; large green ornaments hanging from the branches. But careful, if one fell and landed on your head you would be dead.

Any way you could post a picture of the avocado tree Kenna? Living in Canada, I’ve never seen one.

Don't cheat and count the calories for half an avocado.....I'm also in Canada. Are you in Texas? I've heard everything is bigger there! Sounds like a wonderful day with your friends and worth the indulgence.

I’m in California, but as I mentioned, this tree is from Puerto Rico. The mom doesn’t know what the tree is called. It is so big now that it has taken out power lines and phone lines. She has to have a tree service come every other year to trim it back. When they do that she has collected as many as 400 -600 avocados.at a time. I will take a picture. The tree shadows shades her entire back yard but I will see if I can get a decent picture of those dangling green beauties.

I'd love to see that tree too! Who knew they could get that big and produce so much?! My sister always grows starts off avacado seeds by putting 3 toothpicks into the pit and then placing the bottom half into a jar of water. I heard if you grow two and somehow get them to grow together you could create a tree that would produce fruit but she's never tried that.
