Kenna Morton's Journal, 28 Apr 20

As anticipated, our food supply chain is starting to break down. On the list of items that will be on that high impact list is meat; red meat and pork to be more specific. Now would be a appropriate time for many low carb people to do some reading and research on the financial and health benefits of legumes of all types. You need a protein source and like it or not, legumes are a wonderful source. Just say’in.

If I eat lentils I am no longer keto so at that point it really does not matter. I plan to stay keto through this if possible. I have a lot of protein powder and nut proteins and dairy proteins. All of these can be mixed with some good fats and make you nice and full and still keto. I do eat some tofu and black soy beans that are not too bad on carbs. Also stocked up in the freezer for a bit on meats. Very important to be healthy through this.

I started a garden. Saved all the avocado from the tree. considering rabbits.

Eating rabbits? Plenty of them running around here. They are apparently good. But I never tried.

Rabbits are good—- pure protein but you have to make sure to include fat when you eat pure protein foods in abundance.

I actually include tofu in lots of things I make like spaghetti sauce. Small amount of meat sautéed with tofu. No one ever guesses its in there.

For those who wish to maintain ketosis, as said tofu, tempeh, as well as Greek yogurt, nuts, nut butters, seeds, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, eggs, dairy. Premier protein (30g in a serving) and collagen powders.

Canned proteins are an option. I have many cans of tuna stocked up and they are still available. Lentils are not really on the top of my keto list LOL

Liv001–you would be surprised what you would eat if you wer hungry enough. I have eaten rats and thought it was a gourmet meal.

But maybe we will be discussing why we ended up in this pandemic if we start with unusual things to eat running wild out there. :) I did buy chicken liver which is a nice cheap protein and there are some ham and ham hooks out there as well reasonable for keto people staying away from rats

I love chicken livers. I don’t eat them often because they are pure cholesterol but they sure are good with ketchup mixed with horseradish.

Buy your meats from local or grass fed sources. This bypasses the huge meat-packing plants and the factory farming industry. Local farmers will appreciate the business.

I could go without meat, but I do like fish.

A couple of years ago I discovered Christmas Lima Beans and Anasazi beans. Both are ancient heritage beans. I have to order them on the internet. Seeming not carried in any stores, not even Whole Foods. They are so wonderful. I cook them at the beginning of the week and eat them for breakfast along with nopales (cactus). I went to order them today and the two venders I have used in the past are seemingly not in business. I did find the beans from yet another supplier so ordered 10 lb. each. Will last for a long time. Lots of fiber and protein and carbs as well, but that is not a concern for me. Things are getting harder to find.Farms and family owned operations like those that grow my beans are not surviving the shutdown.

According to FS Rabbit meat has plenty of fat. I mean not for keto probably(it's irrelevant anyway) but enough for health.

It is about the same as chicken breast maybe?
