Fritzy 22's Journal, 04 Jan 20

Finished Day 3 of the Daniel Fast. It was tougher than the first two days. Have I ever said I DON'T LIKE TO COOK! I thought I'd make stir fried veggies today, but just didn't feel like it. Breakfast was a cup of warm water with a slice of an orange, instead of lemon juice. And 20 almonds I think. Not much of a breakfast so I finished the last of the can of kidney beans I had used for the meatless chili. Heated up 1/2 cup of the beans and they were really filling. Didn't feel like cooking anything else, but finally had a cup of frozen corn I heated in the microwave and a cup of raspberries for lunch. 3 stalks of celery for dinner, or maybe that was lunch. But did have a cup of pistachios (a cup with shells). They are raw, no salt or anything. Ended again with about 750 calories, but more protein, just 30 grams. Still not enough, but I don't like beans enough to get 40+ grams of protein. I'm already getting bored with this since I don't like cooking and have a limited amount of "plants" that I'll eat. I've already logged for tomorrow for what I plan on having. Will stir fry the vegetables for dinner. Breakfast will be 1/2 avocado in slices with 2 tablespoon of chopped almonds and half a grapefruit. I'll need to start thinking of more variety for the 2nd week - maybe roasting veggies in the oven. I like sliced and roasted yams, potatoes and onions. I want to make it through the whole 21 days, but this is getting so boring...……….

Good job on day 3.

Maybe you can find out what other Fasters are doing and get some ideas from their food choices. To me that is one good thing about open diaries or people sharing their food through meal pics

Roasting veggies is a great idea! Mixed with roasted potatoes, legumes or whole rice makes for a filling meal. Play with spices if you like them, to change the flavor and make it less boring. Find 3-4 meals you like, batch-cook them and repeat them often; that’s the trick for many people who don't like to cook. You’ve got this!

I couldn't do it. Good luck, Fritzy!

liv - good idea to look at the food journals of others doing the challenge. Most aren't logging there food. I've learned from other challenges that many people don't complete or even start the challenge. Eva - when I cook I usually freeze 2 or 3 extra portions, but the food I'm eating now I don't like as leftovers. Although I do like the roasted veggies cold! I really enjoyed the grapefruit I had for breakfast today. Don't usually buy them, but wanted variety and was lucky to get a sweet and juicy grapefruit. DP - I'm just starting day 4. We'll see how far I make it, but the weight loss so far has been nice.

May I ask a question? Biblically, Daniel fasted for 10 days. (Daniel 1:12) Why do people stretch it out to 21?

Wifey - don't know the answer to that. I checked Google and there are many different answers both medical and spiritual.

I was thinking the 21 days to make a habit, but after the 21 data, most people return to eating how they did prior to the fast. I don’t understand this. And Daniel only did it to not eat the meat sacrificed to idols and prove his strength would be greater eating his God instructed him to eat. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m searching this out and studying. Spiritually fasting is wonderful. Maybe people do it for this reason. Yet the Bible also says...nvm...all the very best Fritzy. You are strong to endure this. Proud of you! 💕

Wifey - In Daniel 10:2 it shows a three week fast. So there are different lengths of time. I may have decided to do this fast for various reasons but am thinking the spiritual reason is the best. Gets me to stop worrying about the food. I am only 3 and 1/2 days strong so far! 21 days is a long time.

Very true Fritzy! Daniel fasted a lot it seems. Such a righteous man. Interesting how few follow Jesus with 40 days, water only!! 😉 I seem to lack the discipline with fasting. It’s very difficult while lifting and my busy schedule and strenuous job. But NO EXCUSE. Something that I’m praying about as I know when I used to fast regularly, it was a very serious thing spiritually and brought me closer to Jesus. Something I’ll set as a goal this year. 🙏✝️ If anything, your example has benefited me to practice it again, more regularly. Thank you! ❤️

Wifey - this doesn't feel like a fast. I've done several 72 hour liquid fasts. This fast allows lots of food - just plant based. Wish I liked vegetables more, by the end of this I may. I'm retired so it's easier for me to do this. I don't think I could if I was still working although I'm surprised that I am not getting headaches at all.

Very true! My fasts are always no food, water only. It’s rough!

I hear ya about not cooking. That's why I have a lot of skillet dinners when I'm in this phase. So easy to toss some beef / chicken or fish into a skillet then pour a bag of frozen veggies on top after a few mins. That all 'does it's thing' while I prepare the percolate for morning coffee. Quick, easy & still better for me than ordering a pizza (because I'd likely eat the whole pizza ... but I am seriously thinking about a pizza...)

Bella - I love pizza but have only had the little mini thin crust pizzas when I've gone out to lunch a few times in the past 6 months. I've resisted buying a Papa Murphy's take n bake at least a dozen times because I don't want to have a whole pizza in the house. Stir frying veggies is working for me right now.
