I think most T2 diabetics are aware of diabetes type 1.5 or LADA. But for those who aren’t, here is something to consider if it has not already been addressed.

It's not all black fortunately. Reversal of Type 1 is very achievable in the early stages. I haven't had time to read the full story yet, but I heard dietary reversal of Type 1 otherwise is in the works, I believe as a French Hungarian way of approach. Have a rest day today, with time to read more about this announcement.

@Diddlee I've never heard of a type 1 reversal except for a pancreas transplant, I'd like to see that data.

Type 1 reversal info https://www.paleomedicina.com/en/brilliant_scientific_success_T1DM_overcome_french_or_hungarian_researchers_take_credit Seems like early stages still apply

In a nutshell, this dietary reversal is based on 2 parts animal fat to 1 part animal proteins, by weight. All forms of plant foods prohibited. All forms of supplements prohibited, with Vitamin D as an exception if patient is severely deficient. This formula seals the intestine in about two weeks, and allow the body to clean up autoimmune issues. It is very strict, as just one small portion of plants can make the intestine leak within a couple of hours.

Diddlee are you saying that Type 1 DM , diagnosed by bone marrow DNA is reversal ??? I'm sorry but I'll have to disagree. I'm fairly sure that no food can change DNA.

I'm always glad to visit FS daily. I had never heard of 1.5 Diabetes. I have had autoimmune issues all my life and I wonder if that could be me. My doctor has never mentioned it. He has reduced my Diabetes meds by 2/3 due to my diet and exercise...

Interesting. Something new.

Jessie Quinn The words 'early stage' are essential here.

Jessie Quinn— the patient typically presents with the usual type 2 symptoms, but often is not an over weight person. Most often they are started on type 2 treatment with Metformin or one of the other oral agents and instructed as to diet and exercise. The patient typically can’t get the blood sugar under control even if they are doing what they are suppose to do. Follow up includes a glucose tolerance test and serial BS at specified time intervals. Once diagnosed they usually take a combo of oral and Insulin. 1.5 is a form of auto immune.

FullaBella. This is not actually real new. I think the thing that the docs are missing is that forehead slapping moment when they realize this is not an obese person, and certainly after not getting decent results even with a completely compliant patient. Most people are T2 so no one wants to put people through expensive testing unless there is really an indication for it.

They are working on a modified Keto approach to T1 diabetes, but this is one of those “do not try this at home folks” situations. I know there are people doing it. But a screw up in this arena could be deadly. Nutritional Ketosis is not the same thing as diabetic. Ketoacidosis.

I meant new to me. Hadn't heard of this before now.

Thank you for the heads up!

@Diddlee Type 1 diabetic people come into the world with the disease. DNA is created before birth ...there's no such thing as early stages.

@kenna Thank you Kinna for your explanation. I'm a DNA bone marrow positive Type 1 DM with DNA positive Autoimmune RA. I have a pretty good handle on what it is since living with these 2 diseases all my life. I'm also a retired RN same as you.

John— if you have been able to successfully control your blood sugars with diet and exercise to a point that you are beginning to lower your med doses, you do not have 1.5 .

Diddle—At this time, there is no reversal of T1 diabetes. The pancreas has stopped working. As time goes by and new technologies are developed and we discover new ways to use stem cells, I am positive there will be some new and better treatments. This is such a crucial time in our history— things that we could not even successfully treat 20 years ago are now actually CURED. Everyone who has a condition like diabetics should focus on taking the best care of themselves as possible. There will be a cure Someday and you do not want to be denied the chance for that cure because your body is already too damaged.

Kenna Morton The reason I took time to comment, is that the info provided is not well known. Felt a need to share this hope for those with an early diagnosis.

Kenna Morton And you're very right about great care need to be taken. Good points you put in there.
