Debbie Cousins's Journal, 12 Aug 19

Yesterday was a 3,000+ calorie day! I wanted to eat everything! At least I recorded it all – that means I’m not in a full-blown binge again. But, today is starting out to feel like yesterday’s twin. It’s not even quite noon, and I’ve already consumed 1,300 calories of “legal” stuff.

I’m bored. Yesterday was a very productive day, but I got bored about 2/3 of the way through it. Being bored equals wanting to eat. Today, I just don’t feel like being productive. I have plenty of things I COULD be doing.

It was almost kinda anticlimactic to get the main things accomplished around the house. The dishes are done; the kitchen is clean; the old food is removed from the refrigerator; the living room is tidied; all the laundry is done. Vacuuming and cleaning the bathrooms just don’t seem like things that will make me happy.

Debbie, what about including in your daily list at least one purely delightful and pleasurable activity -- something totally unrelated to eating, exercise, cooking, and cleaning? One of the things I enjoy is rereading all-time favorite poems from e. e. cummings or Robert Frost. I'll post a couple in my journal right now!

Boredom has been the downfall of many good diets. I keep a crossword puzzle book handy to keep my mind busy and off of food. Sometimes it is easier to eat nothing at all than just a few bites that don't satisfy you.

Have you tried meditation when you get those bored and empty feelings we all get some time? Sitting down for 10 or 20 minutes and just trying to clear my mind of all those thoughts that drive us to distraction, watching my breath, noticing how my chest rises and falls, just being aware and trying to let go of all the chatter that goes on in my mind slows me down, sometimes allow me to realize that I am not empty after all, that I am calm and focused and good. If I do it regularly, I stay on track much better in regard to eating, exercise and life in general.

i'm sorry to hear that - I find that music makes mundane tasks a little more enjoyable. like i'm in a music video or movie or something!

Sometimes it can be overwhelming... you feel like you are on a down hill slippery slope. Whenever I feel this way I set a small achievable goal. ex... drink a glass of water, allow my stomach a 2 hour rest time to digest my food. Set a small obtainable goal to start your climb back upward!!!! You can do it!!!!

I don't get bored often, but when it happens, I take a walk. Reading my bible or reading devotionals brings such peace. praying for you sister.

I sometimes have a cup of hot drink - coffee, tea, broth or bouillon when I feel bored-hungry.
