Debbie Cousins's Journal, 13 Jun 19

Today my husband wanted me to make him some macaroni salad - which I did, with shell macaroni plus cucumber, tomato, green pepper, onion & Mayo + spices. I made that before I went to the psychiatrist appointment. On the way home I called him and asked what he'd like to have with it and he said "Beanie Weanies," so I started with a big can of Bush's Baked Beans and added ketchup, mustard, worchestershire, molasses, brown sugar and bacon - then sliced Hebrew National hot dogs thinly and cooked in the beans until they were plump.

AT the psychiatrist appointment, I found out that one of the medications that helps me to be motivated causes WEIGHT GAIN! Could this be the reason I've been struggling so much lately? I can't believe that I'm trying to lose weight and taking a medication that is trying to not only PREVENT me from losing weight, but making me GAIN! I was pretty aggravated by that, and decided to go ahead and EAT the macaroni salad and beanie weanies with my husband for lunch AND dinner. I even had a few potato chips with the dinner portion.

Starting tomorrow I won't be taking the offending medication (Abilify - Ariripriprazole). The pharmacy was out of stock of both the new medication for motivating me AND the medication he wants me to use to replace both Clonazepam (which causes alzheimer's in people my age and Ambien which does not promote "natural" sleep. Unfortunately, the pharmacy was out of both of the new meds, so I won't get them until tomorrow or Saturday. Hopefully, they'll be things I can AFFORD! The one the bladder doctor prescribed for "overactive bladder" last week was $405 WITH INSURANCE! I told them they'd have to just KEEP that one!

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a good day. I have everything I need to MAKE it one on hand. Just gotta make the right choices!

Meds can have awful side affects. I've heard that card helps. I have to order my meds as a 90 day supply to be able to afford them. The migraine med I was on contributed to my weight gain, weaned off to magnesium as a preventative--chronic migraines are down to maybe one once a year. Doc checks my magnesium levels now and then. The daily steroids I take cause weight gain one reason my calories on maint need to average 1400 a day and to lose 1200 plus exercise.

Absolutely on Good RX app and also ask the pharmacist at every pharmacy what the cash price is for any meds you're taking. I was paying more with my insurance co-pay for some daily meds than the cash price. Now, I ask them to give me the cheapest price. Target, Costco and Walmart all have "saver clubs" you can look at, too. It totally sucks.

Medications! Sheesh - I know what you mean, Debbie. The costs, the side effects. Just nuts!

Good luck with all the problems, Debbie. I am finally back (mostly) with the low carb way of life and the weight is slowly falling away. I feel much better too, the niggly things are fading - muscular pains, pins and needles, headaches are all improved for me.
