Nothing wrong with fasting to help with a calorie deficit, I use it when cutting, but it isn't a fat loss hack and going by this may actually be detrimental to your calories out going by the fewer steps comment.

IF helps me control how many calories I eat in a day, but that's just me! 2 bigger meals seem to work a lot better for me than 3 smaller ones.

Oh, and I definitely don't hold out on eating if let's say 14 or 16 hours hasn't passed since my last meal, I just eat when I'm hungry.

It would be interesting to know what they eat. If they wake up before dawn and overeat, they wouldn't be able to move quickly for quite a few hours. If again they overeat before they go to sleep then they might not sleep well and be tired the next day.

I sleep like a baby when I eat a lot beforehand. Some may not so they can eat a couple hours before. It's pretty flexible.

Ramandan fasting is different from our fasting. They can only eat before sunset and after sundown and that is also when they sleep. Most are not dieting if any. I don't think that it is a good comparison to our fasting. Sunrise is 5:15 and Ramadan just finished. They might have to get up at 4:30 am if they want to eat before sunset. It's an opinion, it's my opinion!

They just used Ramadan to help with the study. Who cares when people eat as long as they are fasting? Not sure how that changes anything.

Then they're lucky and they don't have to fast!

Not quite true what I said because they can't eat during daylight. Someone passed out where I work, I am not so sure if it's that easy for them to have energy when they have to wait until sunset to eat. It is my opinion as well. I would have a hard time having energy and waiting.

My personal experience: I do OMAD because it works with my lifestyle and I prefer a larger, satisfying meal once a day. I would normally have that meal around 6pm. During Ramadan, sunset was closer to 9pm so I would wait until then to have my 1 meal, but between 6pm and 9pm I would be immobile lol. I can see how the study concluded that fewer daily steps were taken as I had experienced less physical activity in the past month.

IF has helped me tremendously. I went from 240 pounds to 210 just by doing the 16/8 fast alone, no exercise. The problem is I can't go below that without caloric restriction and exercise. I think for me restricting my window to eat was much easier than trying to restrict what I ate over a longer period of time, meaning that I could only eat so much during an 8 hour window before I was completely full. Mentally I would shut myself down after the 8 hours and not even think about food. It works for me, but I know a lot of people who have tried and said they couldn't do it.
