Debbie Cousins's Journal, 16 May 19

Thank you, everyone, for your kind and caring comments. I put up all the shades today and actually opened the windows for about an hour before it got too hot. I've been more productive than usual -- did 4 loads of laundry, did dishes, cooked spaghetti squash, got MOSTLY caught up on my FS stuff! Oh, and I made some iced green tea with Stevia this morning to get in my water, and I'm pretty sure I've had at LEAST 48-oz of it so far today. Next time, I need to funnel it into my two 32-oz water bottles, so I can be SURE of my consumption.

I ordered a new skin cream which arrived today, so I can work on getting my face "taut and toned." I did about half of my PT exercises today, and about 1/3 of them yesterday. Right now, I'm sitting in my recliner with double ice packs on both knees. BUT, my string beans have runners that have gone up the stakes, and across the yarn, and are latching onto the deck railing slats!!! The plants make me so happy! I go out and "visit them" at least 3 times a day!

BUT, I've been eating ALL DAY! At least I've RECORDED ALL of the junk I've eaten today. It's not a pretty sight. I'm NOT looking forward to weighing in the morning -- but I will, and I'll record the result. I think I'm going to go to bed very early, just so I will quit eating! My intentions were REALLY good today! There's always tomorrow.

I'm sure you know this but I will say it for others that don't know, that Atkins bars have Splenda, as Sucralose. On Dr. Mercola's web site it says: Sucralose causes definite changes in the liver of treated rats, suggesting toxic effects. According to the researchers, sucralose should be used with caution to avoid liver damage. Previous research found sucralose reduces gut bacteria by 50 percent, increases the intestinal pH level and causes biochemical distortions. This was again confirmed in 2018, when all currently approved artificial sweeteners were found to cause DNA damage in, and interfere with, the normal and healthy activity of gut bacteria. Wow, I don't eat Splenda when I found that out several years ago. Atkin bars also contain maltitol. Since maltitol is a carbohydrate and has calories, it also affects blood glucose. Maltitol syrup has a glycemic index of 52, which approaches that of table sugar at 60. ... The powdered form has a glycemic index of 35, which is still higher than most other sugar alcohols and higher than all artificial sweeteners. They also have Polydextrose in the bar itself plus in the coating. Polydextrose can cause intestinal gas (flatulence), bloating, stomachcramps, and diarrhea. Polydextrose might cause severe diarrhea. It gave me diarrhea when I had it in "sugar free" ice cream years ago. These are dangerous ingredients. I love you Debbie, but I'm sure you want your friends to know these things can cause depression, plus much more damage. After your good gut bacteria is gone, you can't digest your food. Oh Debbie, I am crying for you. The high carbs (almost 280) are so detrimental to your T2D but even worse for depression.

Good catch on Sucralose, Snowy - a combination of glucose (which raises serum insulin and glucose levels, contributing to obesity and diabetes) and fructose (converted to fat and stored in the liver, aka "fatty liver,," aka NALD - non-alcoholic liver disease which damages the function of this vital organ). Sucralose is *not* your friend, folks!

Good for you, Debbie; getting some work done, logging your food, doing some exercises, getting outside. Keep up the good work, we are all pulling for you. 💖🌼💖

it's so cute that you visit your plants. I love when nature brings people joy! Yesterday was just a day, I hope you have an amazing day today and that your beautiful bean plants grow and flourish more than ever. I live in the south, our growing season begins in the fall. I am getting ready for a great salsa garden! and a strawberry bed. I bet the rabbits will move in, but the neighbor rescues/fosters/rehomes cats so there are usually anywhere from 5-10 hanging out. (I feed them sometimes, but never pick them up.)
