For some of my buddies here;

How can we reverse time as our bodies naturally want to lose muscle, aerobic capacity and ability to recover from our physical efforts..."yes, getting older sucks" but as a wise man once said, "aging is no fun but it is far better than the alternative!".

How Aging Athletes Can Get Faster (Yes It’s Possible)
From TrainerRoad, Nick Kanwetz

https://blog.trainerroad.com/how-aging-athletes-can-get-faster/

The article discusses how diet, nutrition, weight training, HIIT and proper recovery strategies can be used to combat natural aging / weight gain, insulin resistance, etc., leading to strength gains, weight loss, better hormonal balance and a healthier, fitter body.

If you are under 40 you can still benefit from some of the information, over 40 and want to be as healthy, lean and fit as possible then this is right up your alley.

However, if being athletic or active isn't your "bag", but you are over 40, there is still a lot of useful information as well as links to other relevant articles that might make a difference in your weight loss journey.

Great article. Yeah, I do not disagree with any of it. My problem is lately I have come to realize I don't 'enjoy' lifting weights or doing HIIT Haha! So, eating less and doing a lot of cardio may not be recommended for men, but it DOES work better than just getting fat :)

Thanks Mom and Adef!! Actually Adef, they are far from anti-cardio as the whole Trainerroad program has many facets, most of which consist of many hours of cardio a week. The research has shown that unless you are doing massive amounts of cardio a week there is an equal or better physiological benefit to our hormone profile by incorporating HIIT and weight lifting...even just adding a small percentage of higher intensity efforts to resistance training, cardio, hiking, walking, etc has great fitness and body mass benefits.

Also, if you haven't been active for a while, almost any exercise (walking, yoga, pilates, biking, etc) can trigger beneficial hormonal changes like increased testosterone (both men and women need for maintaining lean muscle), better insulin sensitivity, increased growth hormones (anti-aging), etc. which all contribute to a leaner, fitter older adult. Super important also is getting proper rest/recovery to allow those good hormones to work...this I need to work on and gets harder to maintain as I've aged.

No problem JF...that aging thing is quite common I've heard, wink, wink. But I know you are an athlete...you even name your exercise equipment, lol. Also, we all are "athletes" to some extent, our activity level comparable to our past selves is really what can make a difference in our future health and present weight loss efforts.
