HCB's Journal, 15 Nov 12

Today I had plenty of willpower against temptations while at yet another Conference. I brought protein for breakfast, ate an apple instead of pastries, and then had the catered lunch - modified to suit me!

I ate three salads! Then, I ate the chicken breast after removing all the skin and "sauce", and a few green beans. I avoided bread and butter, potatoes, croutons and a huge piece of cake! I opted for one bite of cake - and I actually ate ONE bite! The others at the table were amazed at my self-control as they scarfed down their whole gooey chocolatey piece! LOL!

It's weird though - some days I am fully able to resist temptation and other days it seems like I want to eat everything in sight!

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

Wow you really did great! I'm so proud of you. I know what you mean about some days being easier than others. You have it all figured out though and it really shows!

Wow, great job avoiding those temptations! Envious of that will power. It is interesting how some situations we can have all the will power in the world, and suddenly sometimes it crumbles. Heres hoping yours sticks with you :)

Great job! I totally know what you mean about the temptation. Battling that myself the last few days.

I have to add - thanks for being so diligent with your food recording. I love having it to look at when I start to get off track. I wish everyone would record so well!

I record everything that goes in my mouth on my Kindle Fire with My Fitness Pal (I think that's the name LOL and it's also a FREE app ). I just wish there were some way to just transfer it here.....not in the mood to do double duty recording, I wouldn't have time to do anything else :-/

Well good thing that the cake presented itself on a day when you had good control! Sometimes life favors us that way ;) This journey is about 70% skills and personal strength, 20% external factors and 10% just plain luck. Yeah for the luck! HCB = 1. Chocolate cake = 0. You win!!!!

Very glad that today was one of those days. Of course, a lot of your willpower is a result of your planning for success. You need to pat yourself on the back twice!

Here is my theory on the chocolate cake...You've been really good, not eating that kind of stuff, right? So since you are not having an insulin response, you don't really feel like you need the cake but you remember how good it is, so you have just one bite, even though you would be fine without the one bite. THEN...insulin kicks in, and it takes a while to get back to where you were, not craving or needing desserts. So, I would anticipate tomorrow possibly being a little harder. Will you fill us in on this? I see it as sort of an experiment on my theory.

Good for you, HCB -- I am in awe! And, I so agree with you about days when it can be so easy to eat well & others when its so hard -- just like I have days when I'm so happy & feeling good and others not so much. Would love to hear more about your theory, Djburney, & if there are ways to regulate your insulin -- is it by staying with low glycemic foods?

Good willpower! I'm like you too...some days I have the willpower and can resist while other days I have to have a good fill of something an can't stop!
