Confession time:

I have a terrible habit of knowing full well when I’m off the rails as far as dieting goes, and rather than hold myself accountable, I opt to not log/track here on FS. I guess its like people not wanting to go to the doctor’s, because if they don’t receive a diagnosis, they can deny there’s something wrong and live in ignorance (the ‘blissful’ part is debatable).
I’ve been swept up with the current of life as of late (which is super confusing, because its February – cold, gray and dreary, and I’m of the mindset that people should be in hibernation, not socializing all over the place), and as such have let things slip (is there a bigger word for “slip”? Cascade? Plummet?). I’m afraid to weigh-in tomorrow, but I know I must face the music if I’m to get back to my better place.

Today is day one of shifting my mindset and habits in a positive direction as far as my health is concerned – and that’s both physical and mental, because I tend to get depressed without exercise (yay endorphins!). One day at a time.

It is hard to remember that the food diary is a tool to help us, not scold us. It allows us to see patterns, learn about ourselves and then work WITH our personality instead of against it. It provides a sense of freedom not have to rely on remembering what we ate that is stalling our weight loss or worse, obsessing over it and berating ourselves. I'm an evening snack monster. I wish I wasn't because I know it's not in my best interest to eat at night, and I really wish I was the kind of person who doesn't snack in the evenings. But I can't change who I am. Since NOT snacking is too drastic of a change, I still snack, but have altered what I snack on. I strive to make sure that the snacks I choose are healthier for me. I will often plan for them in advance so I look forward to eating my apple slices and celery sticks or air popped popcorn.

I was just there. I stopped logging (and really stopped eating healthy) during my week+ long period (I hadn't had one for 9 months and thought I was done- nope!), and just started back on Monday. After a couple of days, you'll be back to normal. Congrats for taking the first step! We rock!!! :)

Winter is a tough time— I have empathy for all of you who live in these areas where you take your life in your hands just to walk to the post box to get your mail.
