Debbie Cousins's Journal, 17 Jan 19

Today, I did something I NEVER do! When going to a grocery store or ANYWHERE, really, I always find the place that is the very closest to the entrance. Today, I intentionally parked about 10 spaces farther away from Walmart, so I would have to walk the extra distance coming in and out. You can KINDA see the back of my van directly under the Verizon sign. Then, when I picked my grand daughter up from school we went to Longhorn Steakhouse together (she's 8, and I introduced her to Medium-Rare Filet Mignon - we both swooned over every melt-in-your-mouth bite, which we dipped in the extra "Love" I ordered on the side). I actually parked in the Red Lobster parking lot, and we walked to Longhorn from there! Then, I stood outside at the trampoline for at least a half hour while she jumped on it with my friend, Joannie, and then with my grandson, Max (12). GREAT STRIDES of improvement in the Exercise Department today!!!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. LOL, @jengetfit123! If this Virginia weather would cooperate, I would love to start walking around our property perimeter again (10 acres)! It is only 1/2 mile, but for a "sedentary" person, it is still great (especially when I can build up to doing it SEVERAL times per walk). With all this rain we're having, I might have to resort to (GASP!) cleaning my house!!!

My friend and I walk all the aisles at Walmart. sometimes we shop, but most times we just walk. Up and down every food aisle and then over to the other side of the store. Weather is perfect inside the store...On the pedometer it's about a mile.

Dboza-it feels like a mile, too. Especially when you forget the bath-soap and have to go clear back to the other side of the store to get it before checking out.

Thanks for the oh-so-subtle hint about the weather, @dboza - I really appreciate the gentle nudge to quit making excuses for the weather. Walking INSIDE Walmart (or BJ's, or ANYWHERE) is a great idea! NOW what am I gonna use for an excuse?

@iulani, I also seized the opportunity with my grand daugher (her name is Maebie) to teach her how to SPELL Filet Mignon, and then taught her how to spell a few other French words (crochet, bouquet). Prepping her for next year's Scripts National Spelling Competition! She was 6th place in her whole school this year.

... but that (the spelling bee) was against kids two grades higher than she is!

Well, good for you. My husband is a pill about parking farther out so the car doesn't get dinged. I am grateful for that as it makes us walk farther. Blessings
