Kenna Morton's Journal, 04 Dec 18

I saw on the news this morning that the Hostess company has rolled out 2 new cereals; a breakfast cereal version of donettes and honey buns.. now remember, these types of things are only on the market as long as someone buys them. People are so quick to blame for their obesity. If there is no market for a food item, it will quickly go away. They can change production focus as quickly as a new “trend” becomes apparent. Keto or low carb foods are everywhere because of the growing demand. Don’t buy this kind of crap that they are offering up that is directly marketed to kids. It is an invitation for them to follow you down this same road of yo-yo weight loss and gain that most people on this site have and are still doing. —- WE ARE IN CONTROL OF THIS ISSUE

Exactly! We were all in the trap of well I had to eat what was convenient..same for the kids. So we as people have to do our part and start making healthier choices for eating. Weight loss starts in the kitchen...

I call this type of cereal, sugar coated sugars.

Whocares2017– I am a home cook and make most things from scratch and experiment with new recipes all the time. I was just thinking about this yesterday as I was tasting my new soup for the 10th time— I’m pretty sure that I eat more in the tasting process than I do at the table. I’m pretty sure that is true of anyone in the house who is the primary cooker.

Kenna, have you ventured into the cereal aisle? I picked up some bran flakes for hubby yesterday. must have been two dozen different sugary cookie/candy type "cereals" on those shelves. The company who makes Cheerios had at least a dozen cookie and candy flavors. Peanut butter & Chocolate stands out in my mind along with a fruit flavor one, a plain chocolate flavored one, and Oreo cookie cereal was also "proudly" displayed. We all know these are 90% sugar bombs. My blood sugar raised 100 points just walking down that aisle. People may as well feed candy 🍫🍬🍭 to their kids for breakfast. 😞

BlueFront—it makes me want to cry. People buy it, feed it to their kids and so the cycle of generational diabetes and obesity continues.

Keena, these same people can't seem to understand why their kids are so wild and misbehave all the time. Maybe because they are hyped up on sugar, eating it constantly from morning to night. It won't stop until people get educated about nutrition. As far as I know it is not taught in school, nor is cooking, or home ec any longer.

A solution buy primarily no processed foods and make things yourself. 2 dozen? I'm guessing well more than 100 sugary cereals as the grocery stores here have both sides of an aisle filled with cereals and things like pop tarts.

I went to my Wal-Mart yesterdayand today and in the bread department ALL of the Orowheat products were gone and so were ALL of the Killer DAVE breads. All that was basically left was their house brand and a few other worthless white breads. I did ask about it and no one had an answer. I have noticed that there are lots of things missing from the isles not just from Walmart but also target. Oh yes, the cheese section has been pared down considerably. You are so right about the cereal isle—- lots and lots of nothing but candy type of cereals. I was shocked.. the economy is showing a strain I think.
