abbadabba's Journal, 03 Dec 18

My houseguest is still at my house. She is on the way to the doctor today to see if she has some condition that is causing her pain beyond what the original procedure would have caused. I know she is fine - she looks perfectly fine. She gave me a piece of pound cake (400 calories) that does not taste as good as my smoothie so off to the sharing table it goes. Edited to add: This person takes insulin shots and had cake for breakfast today. Yikes.
Had a fun weekend, lots of activities with friends. Had an amazing banana cream cheesecake, danced at a fundraiser, rescued a sewing machine for a friend, and danced for fun last night. As my friend B says: It's all good!
Decided that my mental focus will be like this: Not saying to myself "I can't have that" or "That's not on my diet" - gonna try to say "It is healthier to have something else, not cake" or "If I have this off-diet item, I will need to give up my smoothie or marinated chicken or cheese omelette" reminding myself I have a plan for my healthy and happy future. Also: "I am a much better baker than 90% of other bakers, including bakeries"
Trying to motivate myself at work too - let's see how today goes!

Please don’t judge someone’s pain by what they look like OR WHAT U THINK. What does handicap look like or someone in pain? I am disabled but am told I do not look like it. I hide my sickness and pain very well. I’m sure ur house guest could just use a friend right now and not someone judging her. Also I am type 1 diabetic & on a insulin pump... you mentioned how ur houseguest has diabetes... diabetic’s just need to take more insulin IF they eat high carb (Sugar) food. But like everyone- everything in moderation. You talk about how bad the fruitcake is but if it’s so bad why wouldn’t you just throw it out instead of leaving it for someone else? When picking a food with high carbs I think about how they are worthless/ empty calories. Like fruit is good for the body and not empty calories. I’m not trying To be rude. Honest! Just being hard on ur houseguest in my eyes... and of course that’s just my opinion. Sorry if this comes across wrong.

Thank you for the wake up, @tiredAgain - this is an ongoing story of a person who often harms herself so that she can remain disabled, but I understand what you are talking about.

You make a very good point ABBA— for those of us who are good cookers, Why would we eat something just because it is THERE? why waste those calories and eat crap. I would rather either make it at home or have something I REALLY am craving.

I agree with Kenna. Why eat something that is not so good just because it is there. You Are Rockin' This!

Kenna, good point. I love to cook and love love good bold flavored foods. Now ice cream is my downfall but it also has to be good. Bought some all natural triple chocolate Turkey Creek this week--oh my--have eaten too much of it. I am careful what I eat and my weight will remain the steady as I'm on maintenance and have been for a long time, a little splurge won't change my overall plan. It's not an everyday part of my plan.
