HCB's Journal, 09 Sep 12

It seems like I am doing a catch-up dance with sleep lately - lethargic about my exercise, too. I am not usually like this but my DH says we are yet to recover from vacation when we did not get the rest we anticipated.

I like having events to look forward to meet goals. Next Saturday is the Pancreatic Cancer Purple Ride to raise funds for research. We will bicycle ride with my friend and her daughter - they lost her husband to pancreatic cancer in February - a sad loss.

Grateful for:

- The good health of my loved ones

- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today
- My DH - who is my greatest "cheerleader"
- My Bengal cat companions named Bodhi and Ravi
- My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
- My connection to the Mother Earth and its entire splendor
- My physical health

I'm feeling the same way, I was short of sleep for a couple of days and its taking me forever to feel right again....I'm blaming it on getting old. Back in the good old days when I was young one good nights sleep and I could make up for a week of missing sleep...now it seems to be the opposite.

Vacation recovery seems to take many forms. And traveling across the country can put us out of our sleep patterns with different time zones or even just from being on a different schedule. Maybe try some melatonin in the evening to get you back into a rhythm. It seems like pancreatic cancer is becoming more and more widespread - not sure why. But what a tragic disease. My best friend's husband died from it so I've seen its effects first hand. Good for you for supporting the cause :)

Glad you are catching up on your rest - your ride next weekend is for an incredible cause - lost a grandpa to cancer when my mom was a freshman in college, wish I could have met him.. I saw an Alzheimer's Event going on this weekend in the same town as our volleyball tournament - lost a grandmother to that awful disease 9 years ago..

Sometimes the change of seasons can change your body rhythm a little bit too. Regardless, you are doing great!

Cut yourself some slack, HCB, you've been working very hard and you just got back from vacation! That ride sounds very cool, what a good thing to look forward to.
