Hello all:

Bread Report - As some of you may know I have been in the hunt for something that is bread but low(er) carb. My initial search resulted in extreme disappointment as I came across a number of keto recipe concoctions of "bread" but were simply not bread-like at all. This includes those "breads" that were very low Carb from Juilan's or Zero Carb bakery. In both cases they simply tasted like cardboard.

Okay, next. the internet has a bunch of recipes labelled soul bread, bread made of cheese and cream cheese and muffins in a cup. All of them missed the mark for me - either I knew I was eating cheese or I thought maybe I had accidentally started chewing on my kitchen sponge.

The third group was more promising. First there was "The Internet Best Keto Bread" at https://www.ketoconnect.net/best-keto-bread/ And, it was decent. For me, it seemed more like a cake-bread and I use it as you would use a pound cake. Next, I plan on trying bread with yeast at https://www.lowcarb-ology.com/low-carb-yeast-bread/. I'll keep you posted. And, I like Joseph's Bakery Flax, Oat Bran & Whole Wheat pita bread! They have a free from version with no added chemicals.

But, today I was at the regular grocery store and picked up Nature's Own Life Sugar Free Bread.

Pros- yes it actually tastes like bread but you have to like whole wheat, it is chewy, you can make a sandwich, no artificial ingredients, it toasts, butter is absorbed! And normal price $2.99

Cons- tastes very whole wheaty, has 8 net carbs, you won't confuse it with fresh French bread or San Francisco sourdough

Conclusion: For those who occasionally need toast or a sammitch, like whole wheat
and who can tolerate 8-16 grams of carbs(1 or 2 slices) - It is worth it.

Bob
PS Of course all of my taste tests are just my own opinions but that's all I got:)

Hello All:

The Carb debate - I am frustrated with the nutrition field as they produce a lot of junk science. But, they are improving and many people are looking at many types of diets. With that being said , I did find the following article.

The article doesn't presuppose how many carbs you should eat but instead creates a personal food experiment over a few days where you vary your carb intake from low to medium to moderate-high. And you log how you feel in mood and energy and then make your decision.

Hmmm, looks interesting. not sure if I have the willpower to create all the meals but I think there might be something to this approach where we consider our own individual metabolism/gene structure. It can't be that we are all supposed to eat 20 grams of carbs and that's it LOL
