Fritzy 22's Journal, 03 Mar 23

The cat snuck out. If you've read my posts for awhile, you know which one. Tony, the brat. He doesn't come back until he's good and ready. And it's just after 5pm and his dinner time. I don't want him out when it's dark. But I know all I can do is wait.

Went to the grocery store on Wednesday for milk, half and half and some fruit and vegetables to make stir frys. The little local market had nothing! It did have the milk and h&h, I know it's delivered Tuesday around noon so I usually get it Wednesday morning. The produce department was almost empty. Not a bag of potatoes no bulk potatoes. No yellow onions but I was able to get a white onion. No brussels sprouts, no carrots, no bagged spinach, No pineapple spears, or watermelon, or cantaloupe spears. Did snag a container of blackberries and a cucumber. And celery that had been cut and cleaned. The bread shelves had nothing at all except maybe 2 packages of hamburger buns. The Truckee Sourdour display had not one thing. Not ONE egg- well they cost too much anyway. Lots of empty shelves. I asked an employee what happened. Well, there is snow, lots of snow in Grass Valley where lots of employees drive in from. Many deliveries can't make it. Truckee Sourdough bread comes from Truckee, way up in avalanche country. I was told they were the only store open, everything in Grass Valley, 2 Safeways, 1 Raleys, and numerous other big grocery stores had no power, no employees could get to work and no deliveries could get into town. Hard to believe. We got about 2 inches of snow that melted the same day but Grass Valley - a half hour away got about 20 inches and they are expecting another foot or so. Even though they get some snow every year, it's usually just fun snow, like I had here. A couple of inches and you can take pictures. So I got what I could at the store. An employee said they had lots than needed to be unpacked and put on the shelves and said he could go find what I need. I needed brussels sprouts and other veggies and fruit. Told him I'm come back Friday. But I didn't go today. I was told they expect to be busy with everyone who usually shops in Grass Valley to come here to shop and don't know what to expect. Glad I keep lots of canned food, jars of applesauce, bags of rice, for times like this. I have plenty of food and don't need to worry if I can't get brussels sprouts until next week. Walked from the grocery store to my dentist's office to conirm my 11:30 appointment. Was told they had just left me a message to cancel the appointment since the hygienist can't get into work. I was happy that appointment was cancelled. I usually need a few days to get mentally prepared for that appointment and I had forgotten about it. I've always been so scared to go to the dentist. But I love the dentist I found just outside my neighborhood about 5 years ago, and his staff. I'm not scared anymore.

Haven't been eating well on my plan this week. Thinking I may not meet my 1 pound goal on Sunday. The scale had me up 2 pounds today. So I've eaten very little today, and will likely just have liquids tomorrow. And then I'll be happy on Sunday if I lose just a little.

Rain starts again tomorrow. But today it was really nice out. Took Bobby for a long walk, just about an hour. Longer than I had planned so I was tired when I got home, too many little hills to tackle. But Bobby was excited seeing deer and lots and lots squirrels and even some cats.

I’m glad you are doing ok. It’s so good to be back outside. It sounds like you live in a beautiful place.

Thanks Kat.Tony watches my every mood and anticipated when I'm going to open the door. He's been good lately, because it's been windy and raining so much. Yesterday was w gorgeous day but he got out just before dusk and around the time wildlife, like skunks and foxes

Kat continued, wildlife shows up looking for bird seed

Thanks Diana- - I guess it makes sense that Truckee Sourdough can't get here the best sourdough and ciabatta rolls and bread. Highway 80 (where Truckee is) was closed for a couple days. There are other ways to get here but most come from where all the snow is. I'm just going in for a cleaning at the dentist but still hold on to the chair for dear life!

Thanks lgaucker, hope the rain isn't bad in your area. We should get rain for the next few days and lots more snow about 20-40 miles away where the elevation is much higher.

Thanks Kenna. I'm fine. Had a few days where I couldn't get outside for walks because it was either raining or the streets were frozen and slippery after the rain. Hopefully just another week or so and then maybe spring. Haven't you been getting crazy weather too?

My cats were like Tony. Little sneaks. Sounds like snow there can really cause havoc. People in my area go nuts buying up everything in sight when they know the weather is going to be bad.

Wow that's too bad about the snow! Hope your cat comes back ok. We have coyotes around here that eat the kitties that are outside overnight.

Thanks Morticia. Tony is a little sneak. But he wasn't gone long and I think he started in my yard. When I called him he came out of a culvert that goes under the driveways. Cats always seem to travel in them rather than on the street. He left right at his dinner time so was hungry.

Thanks Abba. He was back inside by 8pm. We have mountain lions and sometimes bears here! Probably colored too, but we don't hear about them. My cats aren't allowed outside, but Tony doesn't care

Morticia, I've always kept lots of food , water and even toilet paper in the house in case I can't get to the store or if they run out of stuff.

I’m in California too and have been paying attention to the news about the snow. Praying that the roads get cleared up so food can be delivered. Stay safe.
