Fritzy 22's Journal, 14 Nov 22

I bought a 2nd step counter, the exact same one except in a different color. I'm getting so used to using the counter that I want a back up in case I lose one. I set them both to zero and went on a walk. When I got home my original counter showed about 50 more steps. I guess that's not too bad with a nearly 5000 step walk. The point is to walk.

Got the huge Costco apple pie. I put the whole thing in the garage freezer. I had forgotten how big they are. I used to keep one or two in the freezer around the holidays so I could take to any holiday events/dinners I went to.

The weather was so nice yesterday! Not as cold as the previous days. After around 11am I was able to open all the sliding glass doors on to my deck. Love those kinds of days. Mornings are still very cold. Finally turned the heater on when it reached 54 degrees in the house. Don't you burn more calories when you are cold?

I wanted the pumpkin pie because everyone was walking by with one. Got mashed sweet potatoes instead which are just as good and no crust to eat around.

Glad you got another step tracker. Nice to have a backup of things you really like. You will enjoy your pie. Not an apple pie fan but love to make them! I love the windows open but it’s in the 30’s this week!:)

Yes those Costco pies are amusingly enormous! I cut up a coconut pie I bought and packaged the pieces to freeze for treats. Sounds like you are getting into walking

Thanks Katsolo - on the last trip to Costco my neighbor texted me an asked if I wanted a pumpkin pie. But I only need one pie and I love their applie pie! Thanks Morticia - that's usually what's at a family Thanksgiving table. As a kid I remember there was also mincemeat. Don't even know what that is or who ate it. Thanks Wholdfoodnut - pumpkin is another food I'm not crazy about for some reason. Thanks Navywife - the new step counter counts fewer steps, several hundred during the day. Can't imagine making an apple pie if I didn't like it! Thanks Diana - you are probably doing better than me while you are on vacation. D_eats - sounds like a nice Thanksgiving!

Thanks Abba - I usually cut the apple pie into small slices and freeze. I am getting into walking, it helps me stick to the diet if that makes sense.

Mincemeat at one time was made with meat but I think it is mostly a nut pie now.

Morticia - I always thought it had fruits and nuts, like raisins in it. I don't remember anyone actually eating it. I think it was on the table when we were eating with my paternal grandparents.

Speaking of walking, Sadie did 2.7 miles with me last night. Slow, but she was very happy. And no coyotes stalking us this time.

Good for Sadie! 2.7 miles would be a good walk for me and I am a slow walker. Coyotes would be scary! I haven't figured out how many steps I have to walk to walk a mile. Just got back with a walk with Bobby that was about 7000 steps. Probably between 2-3 miles. Maybe not.

Weirdo that I am, I researched this for a paper in school at one point. During Victorian times, it had leftover bits of meat and suet along with heavy spices to hide what was commonly meat on the brink of spoilage. They didn’t understand it, but the combo of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves probably contributed in saving some lives. The modern stuff is dried fruits and nuts with the same mix of spices. And no, not a huge fan.
