jmb3450's Journal, 18 Feb 15

Wow, somebody slap some sense into me. I'm out of control, on a junk binge. It started last night, then somebody brought in a plate of lemon bars this morning which I ate more than my share of, then candy and chips after that. Time to stop. I'm an idiot today.

I've been avoiding the binge so far, but I know my time will come. Who was it that said, "show moderation in all things -- including moderation"?

Thanks everyone. Might seem silly but confessing the binge here while it was going on helped to stop it, partly because I can't hide or deny it once it's in the open. I'm back on the wagon today.

Time to try something new my friend. Sudden binging means you've been at the monotony for too long. Its all a mental thing now!

Being human does not automatically make you an idiot. You certainly would not tolerate anyone calling you an idiot, why do you do it to yourself? That only reinforces negative thoughts and feelings about yourself and pushes you into binge mode more often and deeper. Instead why not take a minute to reflect on how you are feeling and why you chose to use these lemon bars, candy and chips as a drug to soothe your emotions ... then maybe you will be able to make better choices next time and also eliminate whatever is bothering you enough to want to self-medicate with food ... Been there, done that ... I am not just spouting self-help-speak. It might be the monotony of your food choices or it might be anger at your boss or resentment at your spouse or just the stress of Friday ... but get in touch with what is causing you to make the choices rather than berate yourself for making them.

There was a discussion on FS yesterday - seems like the majority of us can just have one and be happy. You might be a true sugar addict like myself - one bite can set off a binge.

Wow, thanks again for all the comments. Part of my problem/struggle is that I can be an emotional and compulsive eater. Sometimes I deal with my struggles by eating them away...of course that never helps anything at all, but I can use feeling hurt or being upset at something going on as an excuse for eating stuff I shouldn't. Truthfully that's the biggest thing behind my not doing that well with eating this week. The body's reaction to sugar/refined carbs just adds fuel to the fire. Also getting a little frustrated that it's getting more difficult to drop the pounds even though I'm working out more than I did before. "Patience Grasshopper" is what I'm telling myself. Maybe I could also try something new, not sure what the "new" would be, but changing things up can help.

With you Buffy. It's like the alcoholic or cigarette smoker. You just can't have one. Talking with husband this morning and telling him that even eating sugar-free sets me off. That's why I try to not have it in the house. He has his stash, but I have no idea where and would prefer it that way.

I find that if you pause. and put something other than sugar in your mouth, it then stops the, "I got to have more!" binge. Try Peanut butter. Though peanut butter is high in calories, It makes you feel full fast, and it takes the sugar cravings away. Partially because it has some sugar in it. This works for me. I hope it will work for you as well....and NO, don't binge on the PNB LOL GB~Ann
