TDF: restday

I am a little worried about the weight gain. i have several positive explanations:

- muscles soreness -> waterweight,
- eat a little more then usual -> bowl filling,
- tom -> always a kilo heavier, (this also explains why i worry)
- musclegain (i hope)

i also have negative expainations:

- work out on the bike does not consume as much calories as i expected
- no more work outs at gym
- eat more then i think i do

My big question is i am halfway through the tour now, should i quit and prevent any further weight gain, or should i finish and trust that the weight gain is not fat...

Anyway, this whole experience is devastating for my motivation to exercise :(

i need you guys!
maud.

Exercise can't hurt, only help with the weight loss. It will come off, if you are not going over your RDI (set your activity level correctly) and exercising than it's just some of the above positive listed reasons. I do not weight myself when I'm on my period since I know that I will be retaining water then. It's good if you got more muscles in your legs because of your exercise and that's the reason you didn't lose weight. The muscle speeds up your metabolism and will help you later. I have muscles from my stationary bike, they are just hidden under my fat. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

put the excessive worry down to tom and as long as you are being honest with what you are eating and are still ensuring CI > CO then its just fluctuations and you should not be discouraged. You are doing something amazing right now. Look back at the positives. Could you have acheived half of what you have so far back at the begining of your journey? You've come such a long way and you set yourself this goal. you and i both know that if you give up now you will never forgive yourself as you will always think what if, could i have done it?????? You are doing great keep up the good work

I thought we had discussed this in the past. Weight is only a part of the fitness aim, it should always be in conjunction with measurements. I know from my own experience that my body can gain weight but my measurements can reduce, the medical people have proven this to me time and time again. Maud, I see no mention of measurements you seem to have stopped them and I am baffled as to why. Now get your backside into gear and do something posative with a tape measure woman !!!

You have got to be burning serious calories riding as long as you do. I think you should finish and trust your positive explanations.

I guess the key is "eat more than usual" part... I have read in many serious sites that the calories burnt by any type of exercise can not really be measured properly as it depends on the individual's metabolism and not a standard chemical experiment. If I were you I would rescale my RDI and stick to it - cycling probably is not as heavy as your gym work which worked your whole body. It is a known fact that cardio is not as beneficial when stretched longer. Short bursts of effort are more igniting.

Measure your work on the bike by your breathing. "If you can just say a complete sentence", "Before you need to take a breath". That is one level of work. "If you can just", "say a couple of words", "before you need to", "take a breath" that is another level of work. If you can't talk you are working very hard and probably won't be able to maintain that long. If you can chit chat easily that is a recovery ride. Foundation - Endurance - Racing - Recovery

Stick it out. You are working out enough that you know you are not gaining fat. It's either muscle soreness/swelling, TOM or bowEls (don't forget the "E"). Make sure you are logging all your food so you know what you are eating. Are you logging that one piece of chocolate every day? I'm going to go and look right this minute! LOL.

And by Thursday, you'll get on the scale and get a thrill seeing how far it's dropped. Not to worry.

Are you having fun? Do you feel better? Are you doing all the right things to lose? If so why worry. You do know worrying makes you gain stress fat, right? It will happen just remember your body isn't a microwave. It won't happen in 30 seconds.:)
