jmb3450's Journal, 04 Jun 14

Today was an adjust and adapt lesson. I work for a large school system in the div. of food services, we had our end of year party, I'd forgotten about it. So I had small servings of some pizza, crispy fish and a salad. Passed on the pies cake ice cream and other goodies, that's all good. Then a half hour before I get off we get a surprise visit from a Ben & Jerry's ice cream truck, sent to us by upper management. Sorry, I caved on that, had a serving of salted caramel ice cream, savored every molecule of it! I hadn't yet finished my protein shake that's normally breakfast so I dumped it, I was full anyway. Cut out my intended brown rice with dinner and ended over my RDI by 90 calories, not terrible. My macros are off some today but again not terrible. I guess my point in all this is life happens, things change, but it's possible to make adjustments and still come out on track. Knowing that is freeing, empowering. It's a good feeling to be in control of food instead of it controlling me.

I was reading how you're going to make adjustments and guess who I thought of... yeah, he already responded. He's the master of tweaking and adjusting. Bet he can give you a tip or two. Glad to see you've got a good attitude about it and not beating yourself up. Also glad you enjoyed the ice cream.

YES! Life is for living (and I don't think I'd enjoy it very much feeling denied all the time). It's good to know we can learn to adjust your day and make exceptions to keep you feeling "real"!

Thanks everyone, you are all very appreciated. I believe Draglist and myself have similar thinking processes. His website diettruth.org has been very helpful to me with information given and the links to tools and resources.

I work in the kitchen at our local high school and boy do I feel your pain! My struggle has been that we have to eat our "lunch" at 10am because of when we start serving the kids and most days by the time I get off work at 1:30ish I am hungry again!

Emmy, 10am is an early lunch! I work in the central office for the division but am out in schools fixing problems a lot, there's always good stuff to eat in the kitchens. Now when they offer me food I just ask for a bottle of water. They're testing pizza today in our office and I'm getting ready to head out to a couple schools...I'm glad I'll be out. There are 15 different kinds to taste!
