TXSnowman's Journal, 19 Jan 14

What a wonderful day! Hit 188 pounds today. That's only 8 pounds from the goal that I set for myself when I started this trip and about a half pound from turning my graph blue. 142 pounds down and 8 pounds to go....woo hoo!

I fell asleep early last night and got a good night's sleep for the first time all week. Slept 7 1/2 hours and rose refreshed at 5:30. Did some house straightening, then took the dogs into town to grab a few supplies at the grocery and stopped by my favorite meat smoker. He wasn't open for business yet, but sold me a pound of smoked turkey breast and another of smoked skirt steak. He smokes the meat with pecan wood...its oh so good. Not to mention very lean and high in protein. After unloading the supplies, I put on 60 pounds of weight and took the dogs for a 3 hour hike. We covered a little over 9 miles and the weather couldn't have been nicer. Sunny, no wind, about 60 degrees. After the hike, I put a couple of turkey burgers on the grill with some zucchini, yellow squash & sweet peppers for my lunch. The dogs had to settle for wieners. We ate "al fresco" on the back deck. When lunch was over, we stayed outside and I fixed up an antique three wheeled bike for my daughter. I replaced the tubes, put graphite on the chain and did some general clean-up. We bought it for her Christmas gift and I've been sprucing it up a little for her. She arrived with husband and my granddaughter in time to watch the AFC Championship game. Since she and I are life-long Broncos fans we really enjoyed the game. My son-in-law is a Patriot's fan, so he didn't enjoy it quite as much. So now they're on their way home, and I've got a small, fresh organic chicken roasting in the oven with some asparagus spears for my dinner. I think I'll try to do my core workout while the chicken is roasting, so that I won't have to workout after dinner. I'm feeling a little lazy this evening. I hope everyone had a great Sunday and is all ready for the week to come.

Awesome job on in a matter of days you will be reaching you goal. Oh, How about those SEAHAWKS!!! I'm a big "NFC" Seattle Seahawks fan!! I just hope the Refs don't repeat the Pittsburgh/Seattle Super Bowl game where the Refs had pretty much decided before the game ever began that it was going to be Pittsburgh.

188! your dialed in, outstanding. Ahhh, watching the game with someone that likes the "other" team then your team winning. That's what I call winning. Have a great week!

I can only applaude you TX from afar! Can just imagine you going about your day.I can smell the smoked meats... I keep asking for skirt steak here locally as i have some recipes for it and i know it is lean but none of the butchers seem to know what it looks like or which part of the animal it is! We probably have another name for it here but i don't know from which part it comes either so i cannot explain it!

Jenfar. Skirt steak is actually the cow's diaphragm. It's very popular for beef fajitas and is very flavorful, but can be a bit chewy. It should be beat with a mallet for a while before grilling or smoking it to tenderized it a bit.

Thanks TX, will see how it to ask for it at the butcher and will report back!
