HCB's Journal, 19 Jan 14

Greetings my Buddies!

Did pretty well this weekend with both food and exercise. I stayed on track with food because we stayed home and did not have social engagements/dinner out. THAT was a huge help.

I started eating baby carrots and raw pea pods to satisfy my need for CRUNCHY food - better than higher carb snacks.

Orange Theory is going well. It is weird though - I am working hard but burning fewer calories as I get more fit. I am spending well over 20 minutes per hour working at 84% and above of my max in the orange zone...but I believe the fat burning happens better when working at 80% in the green zone...a little less hard.

So, I wonder if this may be why I do not seem to be losing fat...I am working hard and likely burning glucose and carbohydrates when in the orange zone and only burning fat when in the green zone...

We will see...

I am dedicated, determined, and diligent

I think part of it is as we lose weight our body has to do less work hauling around a lighter carcass. I get a lot less "credit" working out for an hour now than I did 40 pounds ago... :)

If I don't exercise for a week, my heart rate really goes up after walking about 20 minutes. But if I work out everyday, my heart rate will be lower, even after doing 30 minutes of treadmill. Was thinking about that today and thought... sheesh, will have to walk for a longer and faster period of time to get it up there. But, I think getting my heart rate around 140 is good enough.

Love those raw pea pods! BTW - does your grocery sell radish chips? They are so good and easy (since I am too lazy to slice radishes myself). As for your theory - it is better than anything I could come up with.

Buffy. What are radish chips? Needing to find a replacement for my addiction to potato chips.

That could be it - it also explains why people who start at a very high weight seem to swoosh down the scale slide while those trying to lose a nagging 5lbs fight so much harder.

You are definitely dedicated. I wish you could send some of that my way.
