Confessions (to myself) after successfully completing the Daniel fast.
It was pretty easy to stay within the confines of the Daniel fast for 21 days. I did not cheat one bit (knowingly. I found out after looking at the label of my shaker of garlic salt that it wasn't totally plant based). I only ate food at home that I had control over what it was and how it was prepared. I lost 11 pounds. I usually have a hard time sticking to programs because of cravings. I think because I KNEW I would stick to it for the 21 days. Mostly because since it was based on the experiences of the Prophet Daniel in the Old Testament I felt like I was making the commitment to God. So I knew I would stick with it.

Now, the day after the fast. At 4am I made a cup of mint tea for my first non water only drink in 3 weeks. Tried to drink it black, but couldn't. After 4 or 5 sips I added just a tiny bit of honey. Not feeling bad about that. BUT the bad thing I did was open a bag of Ruffles potato chips (if you've been reading my journals for any length of time you'll know this is not my first reference to Ruffles in my confessions) and started eating them as the tea was brewing. The chips were something I bought at the grocery store a few days ago when I bought plenty of things I shouldn't be eating. Both for losing weight and also for the gallstones that have caused me so much pain. The chips were $1.99 if you bought 2 bags. So I bought 2 bags. After eating more than one serving (seriously who eats
only an ounce?) I started to panic. I did not want to undo the 3 weeks of the Daniel fast. And did not want to start gaining weight again. So I emptied the rest of the bag into the garbage disposal. Then, thinking the 2nd bag, still in the cupboard would cause me problems later (maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week) I opened it and emptied the bag into the garbage disposal. I will log the chips and get on with it.
I know that other participants in the fast will not struggle as I continue to do. I am pretty sure Keyten will go on and eat fish and vegetables and enjoy them. I am pretty sure Eva will also do very well. I hope to do well, but it will not be easy. Still don't like to cook much and still prefer processed food over "plants". But I have to get it through my head that plants are good for me and that processed foods and meats cause me problems - excessive weight and gallstones.
After consuming the chips (I'm guessing 3-4 ounces or nearly 600 calories) I started thinking that they may cause gallstone pain later in the day. The pain always happens a few hours after eating fatty foods. So I am drinking water. Lots of water hoping to flush the fat through my system before the gallstones cause me problems. Don't know if that is really a thing that works but it's all I can do at this time.
Anyway, hoping the chips will be the last issue. I do have that big block of cheddar cheese. 2 pounds for $5. Couldn't resist although I rarely buy blocks of cheese anymore. I've decided to cut it in half and give one half to my sister and then shred the rest to use later. The bread that I bought - I can handle that and not over eat. I am used to eating just 1/4 bagel or 1 slice of toast (even 1/2 slice of toast). But there is also cake in the freezer. I always take a piece of cake to the coast. The grocery store sells individual pieces of cake from the bakery. I bought 2 of them. I also bought a single layer cake (another $5 special I couldn't resist). I think I will ask my sister if she wants that. She won't want to eat it, but her husband or grandkids may enjoy it.
Okay, I'm done confessing and I'm ready to get on with my day.

Awesome! ❤️ since it was a "carby" fast, maybe no worries about eating carbs the way keto people freak from water after having carbs causing weight gain. I assume you can just count your calories and continue to lose.

Thanks for the share, but for me I just don't bring foods into the house that I'll regret later.

I followed you thru this and it's impressive. You did really good! Alittle salt/ carb is ok as long as you rebound. Congrats on a great fast! 👏👏👏

Jimmiepop - yes the garbage disposal saved me from consuming at least another 1000 calories today! DP - I've been drinking so much water while doing the 21 day fast so it just seemed like the thing to do after eating those chips. I could never do Keto so don't pay too much attention to their concerns about carbs. Ideally my carbs should come from non processed foods, but I still have to have cereal or bread sometimes and just try to work on the portions. Oh, and I don't care if you take over my post. I've never had more than a dozen comments before! Adameve - I do best when I don't have tempting things in the house but something came over me the other day in the grocery store! Wasted some money by throwing $5 worth of chips in the garbage disposal, taking a $5 chocolate cake and half of a 2 pound block of cheddar cheese to my sister just to get those impulse purchases out of the house. Thanks Diana - appreciate your support. I've got a few challenging days ahead of me but I'm thinking I will get through them okay. Keyten - I think only 3, possible 4 or 5 people who signed up for the challenge actually followed through on it. As far as the champion goes, you and I had some different goals. You wouldn't have wanted to lose 11 pounds! And you certainly did a good job of show casing the fast, creating an interest in it with the pictures of the food you ate and a list of your daily meals. No one would want to see a picture of my bowls of corn that I often had for dinner, although I did have some nice stir fried vegetables and chili. And the surgeon I saw about the gallbladder said to drink lots of water if I do eat a high fat meal to attempt to prevent an episode so I guess the water is good to drink no matter what I eat. I may create another challenge after my trip to the coast next week to get me to continue with the plant based diet. I looked up the suggested low fat diet (except for the healthy fats) for gallbladder issues and it's similar to what I did on the Daniel fast although not as restrictive. Thanks Aymla! My sister was happy to get the cheese and the cake. She thought her grandkids and her daughter and son in law would love the cake and she would make something like scalloped potatoes with the cheese.
