Bluper's Journal, 25 Aug 17

I'm going to try modifying the Keto plan. It just isn't working for me but I have been immersed in this plan since May. I only have lost 5 lbs. As of today. The idea of keto is good. Maybe I need less calories, maybe more protein. I shall see.

Adult women need about 46 grams of protein a day (according to WebMD) - your averages for protein look good, I'd keep them where they are. Depending on how many calories you need being sedentary, your current weight and height... maybe 1400 calories is a little too high... but, check with a doctor or some website that has a calculator to tell you what that is.

FS calculator says 2000 cal. I think I might try 1000 cal. Per day.

Alright, just be careful... sudden drops like that might shut your energy off - may I recommend stepping it down? Next week go from 1500 to 1400... the week after go from 1400 to 1300.

What energy? I haven't had energy since I was 30!

Whoops - sorry, I meant no offense. Perhaps there are others who could advise you out here?

Try switching things up and see what works for you! I know I have had to switch things around a few times to get the weight loss moving.

I TRY to minimize processed foods. I have some bad days though. I have lost 12 pounds since I signed up on FS on 7/27 (I think that was the day) in spite of 2 or 3 bad days. I also don't eat after 2 or 3pm, with breakfast normally around 6am. Not on KETO, prefer to watch calories and prefer low fat diets to low carb.

I agree with the step down for calories, I find 1200-1600 works for me, usually staying closer to 12, depending on the day.

Bluper, I have diabetes and arthritis; my knees g=haven't been replaced ... yet. I'm sedentary, although probably more mobile than you are presently. I started out 16 years ago at 285 lbs., so I know where you are. I looked at your calendar. You may be under-estimating your consumption. May I suggest logging your food daily? It would be impossible for me to know what works and what doesn't without daily food logging.

I don't know what you're eating, Bluper, but it takes a while to become fat-adapted. So it's very likely that you haven't actually experienced keto yet. What I've seen work (for someone who was close to 400 lbs and thoroughly sedentary) was to first switch to a solid amount of protein, enough to maintain their estimated lean body mass, and they ate unlimited fats (within limits of what their gallbladder could handle, slowly ramping up). That first phase was to get off almost all carbs. No counting calories or limiting intake; just shifting the way they ate. They did not exercise at all, for the first year or so. Vegetables were mostly a garnish. A1C tested every three months; it improved with every test. Mobility increased dramatically from month to month. Their trousers size dropped steadily. --- Calories DO count, but I don't think that starting out that way is sustainable. There are so many habits and patterns that have to change, to transition into a new way of eating and stay with it for durable results. --- As Miraculum so wisely said, logging everything you eat will give you insight and will help others to share helpful feedback when you request it. Many members here have had significant success using keto. Once they really understand the process and know their bodies, they can tweak it. But please don't start out by "modifying" keto. --- Maybe you want LCHF; that worked for me for 18 months or so. But I started in a very different place than you are. Your health issues sound very, very pressing. Please consider trying, if only as an experiment, advice of people like Miraculum, Paula, Judy, and others who are in this for the long haul and have solid medical knowledge. --- I wish you all the best!

I wrote up a very detailed explanation of the Global Weight Loss Program that I'm doing, that has really worked for me. (I've lost 20 pounds in seven weeks, and have eliminated or greatly reduced my diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol meds, and even my prescription antihistamine.) I don't have any cravings and I don't feel hungry, even when adhering closely to the program. I'm going to post it to my "Journal" and will happily send the info to anyone who wants it.
