Adiposemann's Journal, 03 Aug 23

Ketone level this morning was 4... seems to be a pretty consistent level for my morning test. I am expecting a rebound, but if I keep on top of it, I should be able to keep the bounce to a small amount. I have good energy, reasonable cognitive skills, and by the time lunchtime hits @13:00 it will have been an 18 hour fast. Had to go in for blood tests today, so I knew this longer than my normal fast was coming. Soon as I got home, I popped some electrolytes into my water to get back to a lower level. My first midday ketone test showed a 1.4-2 level, will be testing that later today to confirm... in a few days I should have a good picture, so I will not have to monitor so closely.

Yep, I seem to be Zenus... but it is also kicking mine a bit... mainly dehydration, and the electrolytes I got are causing reflux.. so have tried other home made combos, and still getting reflux.

I'm not a dr, but what about a magnesium & potassium supplement in pill form & just adding a little salt to your water or a little extra to your food. Are you drinking plenty of water?

Cool thanks Zenus... I do everything on that list except the ACV, so will have to give that a try. This started when I really knuckled down on the food intake and lowered the calories.

Hmmm... You may just need a little more time to adjust. Maybe your system is used to producing more acid to deal with more food, and will eventually regulate. 🤷‍♀️ My son just started this WOE and he is having some issues as well, diarrhea. I'm not sure about your reflux issues, but I know his issues are supposed to subside as his body gets used to the change in his eating habits.

Adiposemann, how much liquid do you drink during meals? If you drink a lot of fluids before or during your meal, you dilute your stomach acid so it's harder to digest the food, this causes it to sit in your stomach and expand...reflux. You may try limiting your fluids around meal times until your body gets used to your diet.

I hadn't really noticed Debra... I drink 4 liters of water a day, will watch that, and try to let things digest some before adding water... I am dehydrating a bit, so drinking water every chance I get. I used to use soda stream, cuz I really do not like (detest) plain water... it always makes my stomach uneasy, But since changing my diet, I cannot use the sodastream, it too gives me reflux now... it didn't for years before this though.

some good pre and pro-biotics might help too, in the beginning of my keto diet years ago, I had issues digesting the fat, always felt nauseous because before that I did nothing but low fat, it took a bit for my stomach to adjust to digesting it.

My system is used to a lot of meat and fat... I am of german/russian heritage, while some babies had soothers, I had garlic sausage Hahaha I was very much a meat and potatoes eater, with plenty of pasta on the side. I do eat 175g of natural Yogurt nearly every day, usually for Lunch... I do have some really strong pre and probiotics that are shelf stable. So maybe I need to reinforce the flora to get things working properly again. I'll had to read up on it, thanks for the tip Debra.

I don't know what type of electrolyte powder you use, but something popped up with my hubby since he has been doing heavy work outside, he has been drinking propel and Gatorade zero powder in his water. He has two or three of them and suddenly has diarrhea. I looked at the ingredients and maltodextrin is the second ingredient in all of them. Maltodextrin changes your gut flora, makes them stick to the lining of your intestines, not to mention...it's got a higher glycemic index than sugar. Sugar has a GI of 65 maltodextrin has a GI of 99-135 depending on the amount added by the manufacturer. It's great for athletes who are working out hard the carbs help to rehydrate them, but for folks with sensitive digestive systems, it's not good at all. Just a thought.

@Deb... I knew that Maltodextrin was bad, but I had no idea about the higher GI. With all things considered, no wonder those <1 carb per serving queso chicharrones did a real number on me! Thanks for sharing!

@Debra... Hydralyte is the one I am using, it has 3.242g of Glucose per drink. But are using sodium bicarbonate for 'effervescence', which I didn't notice when I got it, but I think is irritating my stomach... will find out more today, since I am not using it, if I can help it. I did take a pre-probiotic last night with Dinner, and will take another with breakie. Thanks for the input :-))

Since I have a colostomy, I guess you could say that the digestive system is one of my hobbies, since I have a birds eye view of the going's on in there I have done tons of reading on the matter and made adjustments to get my parts working almost optimally 13 years of reading and tweaking and I have no more unexpected digestive issues because 50% of the time I don't wear a bag, just a bandaid over my stoma. So studying that system has benefited me and gives me a certain amount of freedom. I find myself trying to diagnose digestive issues in others and sometimes it's helps, sometimes not!

@Debra... I have a few friends that have had a colostomy, and possibly a very close friend is next... I know they have had to become their own advocates, like many of us with Chronic issues. So I do have respect for their input... when you started rifling off numbers like a pro, I figured you had done your homework.. there was no opinion involved, just information. I do drink a lot of water. which in itself may be lowering the PH of my stomach acid. I am going to pick up some ACV today too, I have seen it mentioned in many of Keto / fasting strategies. Worse case I get some Hydrochloric Acid pills to raise the acidity.

LOL, I was just giving you some background, some folks think it is peculiar to have such and in-depth knowledge of a humans digestive process. I have a huge curiosity and a love of reading, so when something catches my attention I read all about it and retain quite a bit of it. When it really hits home, I dive even deeper. I also know a considerable amount about canine epilepsy for the same reason. 😁😁😁

@Debra... I am ADHD, and my superpower is hyperfocus... so when I tune into something, I beome very well educated in the subject... I have had Physicians ask me if I was involved in medical training, because my language is not pedestrian... I am also old enough to know the difference between sh** and shinola ;) When someone can offer info that I can cross-reference with a positive outcome... I pay attention. I have yet to delve into information on the why's and hows of ACV, so that will probably be my HF for the weekend. I just got all my bloodwork info, so am reading and referencing all the stuff in there too.

oh yeah, I forgot you have fresh tests...those are always fun!

For me the reflux happens with sheer quantity. If I've eaten a lot of fatty meat, it can be a problem.
05 Aug 23 by member: erikahollister
@Ericka... I am eating only extra lean meats... between 50 - 85g per meal... not sure if I am actually drinking too much water, or if I have somehow messed up the flora in my Gut... will hit it with a few things, one at a time of course, and see how it responds. I have not had any issues with reflux in this millennium... until I changed my diet and eating habits.
